Farnley ponies, Foxhollow ponies & Glenmore ponies

IIRC, he was also VERY successful as an eventer after he stopped showing as a pony hunter. Regularly beat the horses.

I have Glenmore Trudy. She had one foal a few years ago, by Helicon Sir Lancelot.
She went back to the showring for a bit and now is here to be bred to Blue Who.

Aww. Trudy’s mom, Lucy Lockets, was my most favorite broodmare when I worked for Betty. She was a doll and had the best smushy pink nose. Trudy’s little brother Calvin is one of my favorite ponies of all time. I miss that little guy.

Not knowing so this may be a dumb question…what breeds or cross where these ponies??

Kim

These are welsh or crosses.
I remember Farnley Hawkeye! He was in great falls, va! DOnt forget Fanley Hector too!

Gotta love the Farnleys! We are blessed to be leasing an Older Farnley for our daughter to show next year!!

My daughters pony was a Farnley pony “Farnley …”. She was the sweetest girl. Sold her when daughter moved up to horses and often wonder where she ended up and how she is doing.

Farnley Private Eye

We bought Private from Suzanne Auletto (who owned him twice- once for each daughter) when our daughter Reed was 2 years old. My husband was so mad at me!! He was the best purchase we ever made. He is still alive and moving like the hack winner at (we believe) 30+ years of age. He lives with us on our 42 acre farm, where he has the stall of honor. Always the consumate gentleman, PI gave Reed wings and taught her to love horses. He’ll be with us to the end. He was just too gentle a soul to send out on his own after his excellent care of our child.

Shenandoah Opal!!!

It’s been three decades and I can still hear that name over the loudspeaker, as it was announced so often. What an incredible pony…

. . .
Also had one here in recent years --that was by Glenmure Liberty Bell.
She was very very temperamental and was a fruitcake to ride. Do not know her dam. She came out of Florida though. Very beautiful and correct though and quite a mover. But pretty is as pretty does.
I have had two full sisters by Liberty Bell. They were not bred by Betty and therefore do not carry the Glenmore prefix. Their (non-superstar) mom was bred to Bert two years apart, and I purchased each of the youngsters from the breeder - the first one as a yearling and the second as a long yearling.

While they were two different colors, they were identical looking otherwise (including the exact same height). But the similarity ends there! One was a bit on the hot side (very safe, not nutty, just and endless bottom to her motor), and the other was a VERY quiet push ride. On the ground, one was very cocky and mischievious and the other very soft and quiet. Ironically enough, the hotter one was the quiet and placid on on the ground - the push ride was into mischief on the ground if possible (dragging things into the stall, unlocking door latches, etc.). Neither were spooky. Both were very good movers, good jumpers, and were easy to put the auto change on. One went on to a wonderful show career carrying kids from w/t on through the division. The other sadly was accidently injured early in her career and became a pasture pet. All in all nice ponies, but oh so different, even with identical parents and upbringings.

Yes - I think you’re right. He was such a cool pony.

FARNLEY BELSHAZZAR- bred tons of successful ponies like Ricky Martin and Sparkle Plenty

We have a Bittersweet pony at my trainers right now, not sure how old he is, must be around 20 by now. His show name was Bittersweet Spit N’ Polish (or very close to that). He was an AMAZING large, so gorgeous. Quite a grumpy old man, but gorgeous non-the- less, lol.
IF YOU HAVE PICTURES PLEASE FEEL FREE TO SHARE… : )

How come there are no longer Farnley ponies?

PRIVATE WAS DOWN IN MIAMI WITH BIBBY AND KELLEY FARMER IN THE 80’S AND HE WAS JUST A DOLL. WE ALL LOVED HIM. IF YOU HAVE ANY PICTURES PLEASE SHARE THEM WITH US…THANKS!

Oh there are many Farnley ponies! They have a dispersal sale every few years.

Lots, and lots of Farnley ponies at Farnley (200+)

Glad to hear it! When I was a kid I always wanted one. Maybe one day if I have a little girl.

Farnley Private Eye

I knew Kelly Farmer and Havens Schatt showed PI back in the day. Havens always used to ask Reed ( who was about 4 years old) if Private was still spooking at the red flowers 20 yrs later. It just so happens I used to cart around a mini plastic flower box with red flowers on it for him to step over b4 the short stirrup rounds!

I’ll try to get Reed to take some pics of him this weekend to post here. These days he’s more gray than bay, but he is still quite beautiful and his legs are still conformation quality! And he still has all his teeth. Good breeding, I guess. We were unspeakably lucky to have him in our lives.

yes there are! you just have to go looking for them

My Sugarbrook Chocolate Rose is by Farnley Frere Jacques. She has had 9 foals and we love her to death.

Our small green pony is by Farnley Prelude. We love her to death! Our daughters small pony we lease is Farnley Colca, I believe by Farnley Ballad. SHe is such a dear and total babysitter for my 4 year old. We love the farnley-severn lines.
