Farrier cost 2017 USA

$45 for a trim on my pony and $30,sometimes less, for a trim on the minis. The minis are less because sometimes they don’t require much more than a “touch up”. I would think I would pay more to get the little stinkers done as I have a TALL farrier and short minis. I am very lucky he actually like minis, many in the area won’t touch them.

$40 for a trim, plus $10 for him driving across town = $50.

San Diego, CA. My boy is barefoot and I pay $55 for a trim. Our last trimmer that moved out of the area charged $65 for a trim.

An hour outside of DC in a relatively expensive Maryland county:

$40 trim
$140 fronts
$190 all around

I’m in southeast Alabama. My farrier is a CJF, and I pay $40 for a trim. I think he charges my co-boarder $110 for front shoes; I have no idea what his rate is for a full set or any kind of specialty shoes.

Southern Maine. I’m paying $110 for fronts which includes hoof packing under the pads. Resets (which we only do in the winter) are the same, but she does not charge to replace a lost shoe. She gets $50 for a trim. Another local guy gets $45 for a trim.

Washington State $135 full shoes, $95 half shoes, $45 trims.

My first farrier in Ocala, FL was $25/trim, $75/fronts, and $100 for front wedge shoes for navicular.
My new farrier is $30/trim, $60/fronts, and I’ve since taken my navicular gelding barefoot (the ground is much softer here than Ohio!) and he’s doing great with it, so IDK what the new farrier’s special shoes charges are.

In Ohio I paid basically these same prices from a couple different farriers. One was $90 for fronts, but that was just an “emergency” pinch right before I moved to Florida.

Northern Utah. $55 trim. $135 full set. All the “good” qualified farriers around here are within $5-$10 of that price. My guy actually shows up when he’s supposed to and does a good job, however, I’ve noticed he is getting too busy and is trying to stretch out dates between visits, which isn’t going to work so well for me.

Middelsex County, CT - $260 front/hind set
$300+ once you involve pads or special shoeing.

Really, my experience is almost exactly duplicate as Beowulf. We must have been baiting the same farriers, lol.

$275-325 for a full set of shoes. Extra for pads or specialty shoes.

Current farrier is $85 for front shoes/trim and $75 for reset/trim. Previous farrier was $125 for fronts/trim (hot shoe) and $250 for four shoes/trim.

$50 for trim in southern NH. Mare has had chronic laminitis - all under control now and has been for quite awhile thanks to my vet and farrier. Farrier will come out when my vet comes out and we’ll do X-rays to check things. Farrier will trim based on what we see in the films. She has done wonders for my mare!

Iowa $40 trim from AFA-certified journeyman

Northern, VA

CJF - REALLY good and knows his stuff
Trim $40
Fronts $90
Pads $140

Then we have gaited horses and have a guy that does them. He is not certified and doesn’t do any corrective work. However, he knows walking horses and got them doing their gaits again literally right after he trimmed them. It had something to do with angles.

Trim $40
Fronts $60
4 Shoes $80

Both show up on time and are kind to the horses.

Why not post what you pay so we can see if it seems pricey?

I pay $140 for trims on 4 horses.

Living in the NE obviously is not good for the pocket book! Northern NJ 240$ for all four reg shoes, up from there for any extras. Trim is 80$.

In Cincinnati I have used 3 farriers this year. Trims have been 55, 50, and 30. Front shoes 110 and 90.

Capital Region NY…$40/trim; $85 front shoes.

Triangle Area, North Carolina

$55/trim
