Hello, I live in central KY and am flirting with the idea of my TB needing to be in glue on shoes for a little while as my current farrier can not keep a shoe on him for a full cycle. Current farrier actually suggested looking into someone else as he doesn’t do all the fancy and therapeutic stuff. What do people spend (approximately) for glue on/polyflex/etc jobs? I’ve got a couple of people I’m looking in to, but recommendations are encouraged as well.
I’d be curious as well. We are in the same boat looking to get glue-ons for our OTTB. We’re looking at the Glue-U system, which seems fairly easy.
When I had a horse in glue on eponas it was about $400 every four weeks.

It varies really widely depending on both the type of shoe, the region, & the farrier.
If you do the “standard” Polyflex shoes with the gel liners, those are (or used to be) $70 a pair JUST to buy the shoes. Then add whatever farrier charges to apply. It was around $150-175 maybe for me to have those put on just front feet (it’s hard for me to know exactly because I usually pay for both horses together). Those shoes cannot be reset (I’ve never been able to, they are aluminum, plus usually get pretty torn up by removal).
There are many other types of shoes & boots that can be glued on these days. I have a horse currently in glue-on EasyBoot flip flops. They were about $150 for initial application (just fronts, barefoot behind) but we were able to reset them, so the 2nd time (which was today) is cheaper.
I’ve also used the Equiflex polyurethane shoe, which I loved, it can be nailed or glued (we nailed). They were much cheaper, about $24 a pair, I think it was around $75 (so ~$100 total) to have those on front feet, because we combined them with a pour-in pad. I was really impressed with this brand, they have several different products, were designed in Germany (I ordered from US distributor, can find by google) & had some nice research data on concussion reduction to go along with them. Because they are lighter & more flexible than a metal shoe, I also found they were much less prone to being pulled off. We reset each pair 2-3 times, so very cost effective.
I spent $600 plus for glue on shoes and impression material for fronts and bar shoes on the hinds. My poor boy was a hot mess with his hooves. He lost a bar shoe behind within a week and the glue ons were coming unglued within 3 weeks. The farrier had been fore warned about the bad state of the hooves and replaced the hand made bar shoe and re did the glue ons no extra charge. YMMV with your farrier and horse.
I’ve heard the Rood and Riddle farrier team charges $1000-$1200 for Polyflex on all four.
I’m in central PA and pay $260 for front Polyflex. They’re expensive but have been life changing for me and my horse.
In central Ohio, front polyflex glue ons are $300-$400. In West Palm, front polyflex are $600-$1000. At Rood and Riddle front polyflex are $500-$600.
My 19yr old gelding has Polyflex in the front and standard steel shoes in the rear. First farrier charged $360. Current farrier charges $220. My vet provides the shoes and sedates the horse through the process. It can be an ordeal but if not for these shoes, he would be retired. I am in South Carolina.
I’m in Central KY as well, my farrier is excellent. I pay $150 for regular front shoes every 4-6 weeks, even resets. Glue on fronts range from $300-$400.
If I may ask who do you use?
I’m in Ohio - my ottb uses morrison roller cuff shoes by sound horse on the fronts, I buy those myself ($75/pair) and my farrier charges $350 for gluing those on + normal nailed reset on the hind. Our cycles are 7-9 weeks? We lost one cuff shoe the very first time, in hindsight, his feet probably weren’t dry enough - now that I know that, I make sure his feet are bone dry for a day before and we haven’t lost a single shoe since. Personally, I love, love, love the cuff shoes.
I’ll pm you! Like having a good babysitter, I don’t pass that # around often:D
I paid 250 a front set in Aiken and 195 a front set in NOVA. I then did them myself for about a year.
I reset every 7-8 weeks.
Which shoes did you use when you did it on your own? (TIA)
I used the easyshoe sport and equilox glue. I can go step by step what I did if you like. I usually got one or two more resets out of the shoes so they were pretty cost effective for me.
I paid $200 for a half set of eponas. I was told you can reuse them, but didn’t get through an entire cycle to find out.
