Fashion Faux Pas? -- Dress Boots

Are dress boots completely shunned in the hunter/jumper world? I ended up buying the Tuff Rider Wellesley boots to extend the life of my show pair. To me, the price was right and I had to do it.

Tuff rider puts out the regals as well, their field boot line. The regal is not the same fit. It’s a very narrow foot, feels like the leather is a bit off, it’s not as flattering on my leg and I disliked it. Therefore I settled for the dress boot style. Nicer shaped foot, fit my calf nice, not “penguin-y” like the field boot version.

Did I just make an awful fashion decision or am I good?. For the most part these are not my show boots- but rather a pair that I may have to hop on a junior rider’s mount and get him around at a rated show.

Thumbs up. Dress boots are always appropriate to show and are classic. You will be fine. I love to see people wearing them (field boots and shads, you see them but ick).

They are fine. Dress boots are permanent classics. I don’t show these days, but from what I understand, they are making a comeback, in terms of being fashionable, in the hunter and eq rings.

Dress boots are always acceptable and classic. Plus, they’re easier to keep clean & polished and in my experience hold up better–less chance of laces breaking, stitching surrounding laces coming apart, backing under laces ripping.

Dress boots are actually more technically correct, but it was impossible to get a beautiful slim ankle, so people started wearing field boots. Now that zippers are so prevalent I’m seeing a lot more dress boots and we will probably continue to see more. They’re both beautiful AND easier to clean.

I wear parlanti dress boots in the children’s hunters and have never had a problem, even in that low of a class. In fact one of my friends that does all the big eq and jr jumpers and hunters just bought a pair. They beautiful, way easier to clean, and always appropriate.

I have the most beautiful pair of custom, dress Vogel’s that I refuse to give up! 12 years old, no zippers, beautiful leather…LOVE them!!

Good luck with the TuffRiders. I bought them thinking the same thing, to extend the life of my customs. I got the Belmont Dress. They were pretty, spitting image of Parlantis. Too bad they fell apart on day 2 of wearing them!

My next pair will be Parlanti dress boots for the hunter ring

Whatgatsby , did you send them back , because I know they would have replaced them . A couple of my riders have been wearing the Wellselys for evverday riding and so far after 6 months they have held up ( I am surprised) JPC IS very good about returns on defective items .
