She’s a cutie.

Points/titles for FCAT, just to help those confused understand
You get the “participation ribbon” as a way to keep track of your dogs points/time, so you know when they’ve earned enough for a title.

Formula used
MPH = 204.545/run seconds
MPH x Handicap = Points

Handicap based on height of dog.
Less than 12" - 2
Over 12 to less than 18" - 1.5
18" and over - 1

Points needed for each title.
150 points = BCAT
500 points = DCAT
1000 points = FCAT
Additional 500 points, you add # after FCAT, i.e., FCAT2, FCAT3, etc.

I love that precious face sticking hard by her own opinion. The slow whippet will get there when she gets there, on her time.

I guess the ribbons signify “mom made me go to the thing, where I did what I wanted to do”.

Thank you! She is a lovely, lovely girl and an excellent companion. We took her to the ASFA trial, where she refused to even look at the lure, and much preferred to hide in the car, as it was cold and raw. Her first run at FastCat, she tried to go around my husband (the releaser) and out the side gate, as she did not at all see the point of running down the lane after the bag. The ribbons very much signify “mom made me go to the thing”

She is very happy in her woods, thank you very much, where she can chase imaginary squirrels and birds to her hearts content!

@mommy_peanut thank you for sharing that! That makes a lot more sense. I found the AKC site a little hard to navigate and couldn’t find any of the information you so helpfully shared.

Here is the video of her first run, after she tried to run out the side gate. I think it’s hilarious that she spooks at the judge in the chair to the left, trips over the lure, then spooks at the photographer on the right. Talk about running greenly!

She does not see the need to chase a plastic bag momma… she prefers really fuzzy squeakers, like chippers, squirrelies and birds. Bags are beneath her purebred show lineage. Duh  :joy: :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I didn’t want to hijack the thread, but I can’t resist adding Rue’s run video. His auntie was catching and filming and got excited, so volume warning :joy:

Oh Em GEE! Rue is the cutest thing EVAR!!! Squeeee!!! He runs really true to the lure. I’m impressed!

I was really surprised at how well some of the small breeds did and how quick they were. A lot of the breeds that I wouldn’t have given much thought to were really game. There was one small bulldog/squatty staffie type terrier that was so game and knew from his first run exactly what the objective was. He was so keen, it was so fun to watch him.

I didn’t see the run, but one of the whippets ran a 5.03, which is approx 40mph!!!

If you are going to continue to post floppy puppy ears running towards the camera, I am all for it it !!!

GO RUE GO!!!

I had a feeling he’d be enthusiastic about it based on his intense fascination with chasing anything that moves, lol. He ended up with a time of 12.26 seconds and 16.29 mph, so not too bad for a first run I think.
He got a little distracted by the spectators toward the end and backed off, hopefully his focus will improve with some repetition. Either way, it was a lot of fun for both of us!

She did it! You go girl !!! :star_struck:

As for the veering and spooking and greenness – I think we’ve seen a few runs around the KY 5* that looked a bit like that! Maybe more back in the old days, before international competitors, when there were more riders new to the level. Whippet girl did just fine, just IMO!
