Faux Cuff with Short Sleeve Shirts for the Hunters and Equitation?

So I may be too traditional, but I really feel weird about a faux cuff and a short sleeve shirt for the hunter or equitation ring. Am I the only one that feels this way? I’m looking at new coats and noticed Charles Ancona is doing the faux cuff…Appreciate your thoughts!

I live in Atlanta where I try to show in my jacket regardless of temperature, which means I wear a lot of sleeveless on those 95 degree days. I find this to be an absolute blessing and a nice compromise.

I covet the Charles Ancona jacket! WANT!!!

From 20 feet away, can you tell a real cuff from a faux cuff? I’d rather a faux cuff than no cuff, and I am seeing a lot of folks ditch long sleeves all together and just show in a regular (cuff-less) coat and a short sleeve shirt.

I think the faux looks nicer as the length of the cuff doesn’t change as you move and bend your arm.

Ego7 does a stock coat with a faux cuff, too!

Personally, I like the long sleeve under my jacket, because it keeps more of the sweat off the inside of my jacket when it’s really hot.

Faux sleeve cuffs are no different from the faux vest points we see on almost every shadbelly coat these days. As an older rider with a background in dressage, foxhunting, and eventing, I used to think those were silly, but I’ve accepted them like everyone else and even own one now.

My mom was making these for me twenty years ago when I was in short boots. I should tell her that now they’re cool.

A friend of mine shows in the C Ancona with faux cuffs. Loves it.

Good thing she wasn’t charging you $115 to put them on as that is how much they increase the cost of a Charles Ancona coat.

Not a fan. Difficult to get white, once they get dirty.

Judges want to see brilliant execution from the rider in Eq classes, and are not impressed with blatant trendy fashion choices. They’re not fans of: 1) coats too short, 2) that brand of britches with the black thigh triangle, 3) extraneous jacket collar colors & piping, 4) headgear or tall boot bling, etc. Hand faults are noticed more often when no gloves are worn & a white cuff band protrudes.

Whaaaaaaat that’s an insane upcharge for some white fabric to be tacked on the inside of the sleeves…

I did wonder what they thought of those pants with the black thigh tab. Have you ever read the product description for those pants? It is…hilariously pretentious.

i had my tailor put faux cuffs in my jackets. for 3 jackets (including 1 yard of fabric from jo-ann) cost me $40. Totally worth it. It looks great and I ride in the jumpers.

I think that is an overstatement. Give a judge the best round and the majority don’t even notice your clothing to any real degree.

I concur.

As an exhibitor and a traditionalist, I can’t imagine wearing that stuff in a million years.

As a judge, I don’t think it’s that noticeable, so I don’t worry about it.

I have long arms. I couldn’t find consignment ratcatcher shirts to fit. Mom cut off the arms and hemmed them to sleeveless, and pinned the cuffs to the inside of my hunt coat. If it’s a $115 markup for the coat, I’m sure she could make a boodle buying used show shirts and selling them as “instant faux cuff jackets.”

I thought they banned (like, it’s actually prohibited in the rule book) the helmet bling after the hideous rhinestone crazy on the original GPAs in the early 00s.

I’m not a fan of riding in a short sleeve with a show coat…I’m just trying to picture peeling off my coat with it’s 35C out and I’ve just done 4 o/f and have to wait around for a hack…ick.

I haven’t seen the faux cuffs here yet, or maybe it’s because I haven’t really watched/showed that much this year, but I don’t seem to have a problem with it if someone prefers to ride in a short sleeve…It’s can get disgustingly hot up here and very humid so I don’t blame any one trying to stay as cool as possible without passing out. (However, I can’t stand it when jackets are excused and people go in the ring with short sleeve shirts on…No, just no.)

But short sleeves still have arm pits exactly the same as long sleeves, and You still sweat through the pits of long sleeved shirts LOL I’m a huge fan of short sleeves and the new mesh jackets to try to keep cooler. Judges really don’t care if they can see cuffs or not, they want to see a lovely round!

The only way I would consider the faux cuff thing would be to do it myself and use velcro or snaps so I could remove them when needed and also to wash them. I was floored that the faux cuffs add $115 to the price of the jacket. That’s absolutely ridiculous- guess someone is getting rich.
