Favorite Anatomical Girth for horse with forward girth groove?

Got a lovely new saddle and fitter suggested getting an anatomical girth since horsey has a big shoulder and a coward girth groove. Best suggestions that won’t break the bank?

I’ve been very happy with my Nunn Finer Piaffe girth. Have also used the Prestige Italia Anatomic girth. Both worked well.

Fairfax Performance Girth, expensive but worth the money.

If you like the Fairfax, but do not want to spend the money, look at the Prolite Girths.

Just be cautious with the Prolite- maybe look at one first. I was disappointed with its cheap look and feel and hard edges and sent mine back. I think it will work great for some people but not everyone will like it.

I have the Prestige girth, it is lovely, soft and well padded.

Prestige all the way.

Hated the TSF because it did not distribute pressure evenly.

County Logic was okay but not very padded.

Another vote for Fairfax.

A $395 girth?! Yikes! Looks lovely though!

I was disappointed with my TSF at first because it was uneven, but after a few rides it has gotten much better and no complaints from the fussy mare. It does seem soft and reasonable as far as cost.

I also like crossing the billets when girthing. Front through the back buckle

People either love or hate TSF. It works well for my horse, and is a reasonable price.

The Nunn Finer girth are nice, but there is substantial difference between those and the TSF/Fairfax/County as far as the offset. My saddle always moved forward with the Nunn Finer. Stays completely stable with the TSF.

I still have my NF girth. When I go to the barn today I can take a picture of them side by side so you can see the difference.

We sell a lot if TSF girths. I really like them at the price point they are in. We also do custom girths that are amazing, but are way more $$.

Thanks Roth, i’d love a pic! Does anyone know if the TSF will be on sale for Black Friday anywhere?

I’m finally getting off the TSF bandwagon. The mare has become very unhappy about this girth and it is, in fact, pressing on her belly pretty hard in the back while barely touching her in front. Now that she has her winter coat I think the hairs are getting caught in the girth; she is not extremely furry, but her summer coat is sleek, shiny, and slippery. It gets slightly better with riding. (And yes I am aware she could have other issues, but the girth just feels really uncomfortable when I run my hands under it.)

So back to the drawing board… I ordered a couple from SmartPak, and am crossing my fingers that the 24 inch ones are not too long…

The Fairfax is so tempting because of the narrow option for the center – and the mare is definitely narrow – but so far anyone who carries it (or the similar Prolite) will not do refunds if it doesn’t work. At that price I don’t want to be stuck with it.

Here they are:

Not the world’s best pictures, but you’ll get the idea.

I have also included the Delfina, which I picked up at a used tack sale this fall, which is very close to the TSF shape-wise. I have not tried the Delfina yet. but I like the softness/padding of the TSF a bit better. Neither of 'em are the padding level of the Nunn Finer for sure, but the price point is better than the County or Prestige.

For those who the TSF did not work for - I hear your concerns. I actually check fairly regularly to make sure the pressure is even from the front and back of girth. If works with my horse, but of course it would not necessarily work for every horse. In the same way every saddle tree does not fit every horse. Part of why their 30 day money back guarantee is a nice perk - gives you a chance to try without more than initial shipping cost risk.

No ideas on a black friday sale…

Has anyone tried the new Nunn Finer Bella Donna girth? Sizes down to 22" (good for those of us who don’t have gigantic WBs) and it looks like it might be a bit narrower, like the Fairfax or Prolite.

I hate to say it, but my horse chose the Fairfax narrow girth. I did not want to spend the money. NOT. But he seemed to like it on trial.

It’s not a miracle worker and the rest of your tack has to fit, but I think it can help the forward-girth groove horse. I was able to demo several anatomical girths from my local tack shop. Ask around, maybe you can, too.

I went with the Fairfax at my fitter’s recommendation. I didn’t even ask how much it was as I had totally blown my budget with an Equipe Bocelli. It seems to be working though I have only had three rides with the new tack.

{broke my ankle on a different horse just a few days later.)

Found I needed 2 sizes larger in Fairfax. My mare liked it. TSF didn’t work at all. Ended up with two sizes so if anyone needs a 30 narrow gauge Fairfax - PM me.
