Favorite anti-bacterial shampoo?

This summer with all the rain has wreaked havoc on all the horses. Rain rot everywhere! What are your favorite anti-bacterial shampoos for treating? Thanks!

Don’t know about antibacterial shampoos but I started to treat my horses with Boric acid and I am impressed with the results after a few days already… And it is cheap, natural and not dangerous for the environment

I have found that a tea tree shampoo works really well. I use the liquid castile/tea tree soap one. I cannot think of the brand name but it is readily available at health food stores and at many grocery stores and stores like CVS or Walgreen’s. Not very expensive. I leave it on for about 5 mins. then rinse well. I also use to clean the sheath.

Is that the Dr. Bronner’s brand?

I really like the Absorbine medicated shampoo that comes with the spray. Has always worked on rain rot for me almost immediately.

There are many anti-bacterial body wash products available at your drug store or grocery store. I would just mix the body wash with some iodine and leave on for 20-30 min… then rinse.

The Micro Tek shampoo! It is amazing and has a pleasant lavender scent. Really good for fungus and all types of dermatitis. I have also had success with Murphy’s Oil Soap for heel scratches.

Virbac Ketochlor is my go - to for all microbial skin related issues. I’ve never had anything work nearly as well.

i second micro tek - best stuff i’ve found.

I work at a small animal vet clinic - unfortunately Ketochlor is hard to find right now. Virbac products are off the market for an unknown reason. If you can get a hold of it, stock up!

Lavender? - I love lavender!

Eqyss MicroTek shampoo and spray as a preventative (I know my guy is sensitive to lots of moisture so if we are expecting rain during his turnout time I may spray him before he goes out. If it rains constantly, I may wash him with the shampoo in between). For an ongoing active skin crud I had great success with the Equifit Silver line of products. I use the powder on hind legs / white legs to help with summer skin crud they get from damp pasture.

Love the Gallop Medicated Shampoo, it even smells nice!

I have and like the Micro Tek and also Fungasol. What, if anything, works on the face? I’ve used Dermacloths but they don’t seem to help much.

Really? I may have to pick up a spare bottle just in case. This stuff smokes all the OTC stuff. I hope it comes back soon! !

I like the Davis KetoHexidine Shampoo from Jeffers. It works really well and is quite affordable.
