Favorite barn boots for the gentleman

Not sure where to put this, but for the COTHers of the male variety what are your favorites for barn footwear. Looking for boots for my SO. It gets frigid here in the winter, but I was hoping for something that could pull double duty in the summer as well.

He’s not horsey, but he does help me at home in the barn and at shows. Tennis shoes are ok in the summer in dry weather, but I would like to get him something that will stay dry in muddy conditions (not trekking through puddles, just a bit of wet ground), warm enough with good socks in the winter, not overly hot in the summer, comfortable for walking around in, but safe if he wanted to hop on for a trail ride or something.

So far I was looking at these,

they look similar to the ones my trainer wears and that I’ve seen others wear.

I wear bogs and my dad has a pair that he likes, but they are too hot for summer months. Any other suggestions or feedback?

I’m not sure where you are, but I don’t think I’d go with a “smooth sole” boot like the second one if you have any ice, snow or even mud to deal with.

Luckily, there are way more options for men as far as work boots go, so you should be able to find something he likes.

No on the steel toe. They get heavy and uncomfortable for regular use. I actually like the smooth sole. It’s ribbed, just isn’t what you would call a lug sole that holds mud and manure and can get heavy.

Is he a western sort of guy? If not, I’d look more toward a hiking boot style that could do double duty for summer wear with shorts. Those typically have a padded cuff top that make them look less like western lace up boots.

He’s just a normal sort of guy I guess. Definitely not the cowboy type, that’s why I’m looking at something more like a work boot vs cowboy boots or even paddock boots.

I picked the smooth sole because the large treads would be hard to ride in if he did end up getting on.

This is a more sneakerish boot, but no reviews on dover.

I’ve heard great things about the Ariat terrains. Here’s a smoother leather version.
