Favorite Double Duty Summer Riding Pant?

Hi! Looking for recommendations for summertime riding pants/leggings/tights that I can wear to clean 20 stalls then hop on and ride. Are the Free Ride tights up to the hype? Kerrits? Any non-horse brands that stick out? I find breeches to be a little hot for barn chores.

I prefer knee patch or no patch - I’ve ridden comfortably in my Lululemons but don’t really want to risk snagging them or something else while doing barn work since I do also work out in them.

Kerrits Ice Fil are easily the coolest.

I’m a fan of cantack riding tights … pretty much live in lined ones in winter and unlined in summer

Kerrits Ice Fil for sure.

Ice fil is not the most forgiving fabric if you are middle age like myself… I like Sync Equestrian and live in South Florida, the most miserable summer climate in the US lol.

I love my freerides, and I think they would be great for your needs.

Agreed. I was thoroughly unimpressed with the IceFils, they lasted about 3 washes (cold, gentle, air dry) before they started falling apart. I love their texture when new, so soft, but everything else was disappointing. The FreeRides have lasted a long time, on their 3rd season now.

I don’t know if they are inherently better than alternatives but I like my free rides. They run long to me but I like the fit and feel comfortable mucking or doing other chores in them.

For those recommending FreeRides, which model did you choose? There are a lot out there!

For those who like the FreeRides, how does the fit of their summer weight breeches compare to their winter weight ones? I have 4 of the winter ones (took advantage of some sales) and some of them are unfortunately low on the waist on the back, while others are fine. All of them tend to migrate downward, even when I have a belt on. I still like them because they are super comfy, stretchy, and flattering so I’m willing to put up the need to tug them up, but it would be great if I didn’t have to.

My favorite summer riding pants are from SmartPak but they are no longer made. The Evolution tights look similar, though. I also have a pair of Stride tights from Dover, which also have a higher waist than the FreeRides.

My Ice Fils are on the third season and I’m hard on breeches. I live in them when it’s hot out.

My summer FreeRides have lasted 2 seasons and my seams are starting to fray and they look well used for lack of a better term.

Now my winter FreeRides are fantastic, but the lighter weight ones aren’t lasting.

Amazing how much it depends on what batch you get.

I find the winter Free Rides sit slightly lower than the Lux and Pro options and aren’t quite as stretchy because of the fleece. I recommend sizing down for the summer weight versions. I have their older model winter ones though, not the new mid- and heavy-weight versions they just released last season.
