Castle Cove is deceased.[/QUOTE]

Damn! When did he die? He was only twenty this year.

He doesn’t look dead on their website.

That said, breed to Coconut Grove, who is also dead, but still available via frozen.

I have a Coconut Grove/Sea Accounts yearling filly (his last JC foal!!!) and I love her, but I don’t think anyone would consider CG a hunter producer.

I agree with the spirit of your statement, CM, but let’s be honest, I don’t see a great number of Percheron crosses in the hunter ring to begin with. And for what it’s worth, Coconut Grove has produced a fair number of successful hunter breeding competitors and at least a handful of successful hunter and equitation horses, not to mention the jumpers.

I have direct experience with and seen enough CG offspring to respectfully disagree. In my experience, his offspring can be highly influenced by the mare. He may not produce a hunter from a blank slate, but if the mare herself has the movement and temperament of a hunter, I would not hesitate.

That’s really interesting as until these couple of posts I’ve heard nothing about CG producing hunters. Jumpers and eventers, yes.

I, too, have seen quite a few of his kids as I live 90 min. from OHF. I guess the ones you’ve seen are out of a different type of mare than what I have.

There is no doubt that he was a very special and talented stallion.

Just as one example, Coconut Grove produced the Devon Hunter Breeding Reserve Champion. Santorini, who was later sold to Anne Kursinski, but his offspring have been very competitive in HB classes on the east coast.

CG is generally on my radar because I have an OH mare.

Viney, Smallwood’s current website is http://www.smallwoodfarm.org

I am looking for a derby hopeful and would love info. I can get the youngster to the derbies and really do not want to go to Europe. (hate flying) and all the extra stress in importing. I do agree with Fred though, I need to see the talent ( will fly in.) And step, scope, brave, looks, and movement. Will look at every video that comes my way.
