Favorite in person tack stores?

I love DaMoors in Glendale. Great service and selection.

In Hannover, Germany, my favorite is Engelke. Sadly, I didn’t make it up there on my recent trip, but they have a great selection of Pikeur stuff, really quality tack as well.

Sadly, Barrington Saddlery closed a few years ago. I had only been there a few times, but what a classy place. DH has family in the region, and it was a long drive down there, but so worth it. There was another store in Libertyville that was more convenient to where my in-laws lived, but it’s now a Dover.

Good memories. Are we really that old?

I always lived in my Pikeur breeches. Loved them. Here I am, three years after my last horse passed, and I still have 3 pairs in my cupboard - rust (!!), hunter green and black. Oh, and I still have a pair of my white Harry Hall show breeches, my bridle, saddle and sheets and blankets I can’t yet part with. You just never know.

Oh, my heart…. The Paddock Shop! It’s been gone for so, so long but the amazing smell of leather and the millions of sales ads behind the front door were unforgettable. I got my first pair of tall boots there. That was a magical part of my childhood.

Big Dees is pretty good in person shopping; Schneider’s is also nearby but they have much less on their floor than Big Dee’s.

I agree the tack shop smell is a wonderful one! The band I grew up at had a small sales trailer and I remember it smelling like saddle soap and leather.

However did they manage to cram so much merchandise into such a small, awkward space?

Horsemen’s Outlet is my go-to for in person shopping, although I do like to go to Manhattan Saddlery to feel fancy sometimes. It’s pretty cool, albeit somewhat expensive. Sad that I never got to experience Beval’s in its glory.

I love going to Jedlicka’s for old times’ sake when I’m in Los Olivos, even though it’s more Western and I shopped more at the long-since closed Pony Express.

For nostalgia’s sake, I always got a wistful feeling driving by Olsen Nolte because the signage and horse statue made me feel decidedly horsey in the Bay Area, and Christianson’s (RIP) was the go-to mecca.

Siiigh… the Beval’s annual sale in February used to be an EVENT. We prayed for no snow and I had begged to stay home sick more than one time!

I’m not sure but I loved every bit of it!

Ooh, that sounds like fun. I never got to experience it :slightly_frowning_face:

When I was there last month, they had really reduced their H/J inventory and increased their Western inventory, it was disappointing.

Love the Tack Room in Camden and Tackeria in Wellington.

There was a place in Alpharetta, Georgia called Tack Tavern. I bought a lot of fox hunting clothing and equipment there. Last time I was in Atlanta the store had been sold and replaced by an upscale dressage-oriented store. And there was a new Dover right down the road, too.

Tack Shack of Ocala and SmartPak <3

CM Tack - Shawnee, KS
Tricolor Tack - Overland Park, KS
Horse Hardware - Overland Park, KS (sadly now closed)

When I visited Kentucky, I loved Quillin and bought a halter and a custom engraved nameplate! Still one of my favorite halters.

I went here every week ages 7 - 18. It is the first place I drove myself outside of school when I got my driver’s license

When Tack Tavern closed, Atlanta Saddlery took over their location. AS had been in a small strip shopping center next to Tack Tavern - the two stores had existed side by side for a long, long time. I haven’t been in AS for ages, but they had a lot of H/J stuff along with the dressage inventory - close-contact saddles, brown hunter-style bridles, paddock boots and field boots and H/J dress boots, as well as knee-patch breeches and hunter-style shirts and coats.

Is Toll Booth in Mt Holly NJ still open? That was my favorite spot growing up. Got my first pair of tall boots from their consignment! In comparison to years past I feel like Horseman’s Outlet has lost its touch - still worth a stop but half of what it used to be. Rick’s Heritage was my other go-to.

Another vote for Olson’s Tack in Bellevue.

:stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:Good riddance to Libertyville!
They had a mishmash of everything & unless you were specific, would try to sell you whatever shlock they had.
Had to stop myself once from telling a customer the Indian leather bridle salesperson was touting was a bad choice :rage:
Only good thing they had was the trailer sales.
Pretty sure that area was leased from them.
We bought our 1st trailer from.the dealer.
1996 4-Star demo 2H BP straightload.
Great trailer.

The Dover store in the same location is a huge upgrade.
