I want to get my horse a new show halter, thinking black leather with white padding. My local tack shop doesn’t have any and it’s hard to judge quality shopping online.
Anyone have any recommendations for REALLY nice leather halters?

I love my Torys and Perris padded leather halters. They have georgeous colors for the padding, leather is soft, supple and strong. Prices are very reasonable.
I don’t think they have any that are black with white padding, but I bought a Walsh halter about 6 months ago and it is by far my favorite halter! It’s super soft and flexible, but still strong and it just looks lovely–I’ve gotten so many compliments on it!
5 Star Tack makes a Beautiful black halter. No white padding, but so lovely…
I was looking at a Perris halter on Dressage Extensions, glad to hear you like it Arabiansrock.
I’ll check out the others mentioned, thanks!
Quillin!
I like my Danzig halters. I didn’t opt for the padding but I know they offer it.
Perris are my favorite. Been using them for years!

Mag- Which Quillin halter style? I’ve seen them before (Beautiful!) but didn’t know if I was a Track or Sale halter, I assumed it was a Track halter.

The Track halter, in 1 1/8" leather, usually has a fixed chin

and the Sale halter, in 1" leather, has an adjustable chin

But you can add options to either. I use the Sale halter and they last forever.
They do make a halter in black leather with stainless fittings, too:
I don’t know if you can get black with white padding, but I have the thinline halter and it is gorgeous.
Another vote for Perris!
The SmartPak soft padded leather halters are yummy. But fair warning: if you hang it on his paddock post and he likes to dunk it/run around with it/stomp on it/chew it - it won’t look so yummy
Walsh, better quality than Perri’s.
Schneiders has some nice leather padded white halters. I don’t have this halter. but overall I have been impressed with the leather from Joseph Sterling/Premier lines.

I have had miserable luck with my Perri’s halter. It looks terrible after a year of kind use.
Hands down, best leather halters are Quillen. Oh, and you can get them for around $65-$70.

And at least they used to be made in KY

I think they still are, aren’t they?
My last leather halter came from Fennell’s in Kentucky, and it’s lovely, though it doesn’t appear that they do padded halters like what the OP is looking for. But still, beautiful halters:

I haven’t ordered a new leather halter for my youngster yet, but when I do, I’m thinking of ordering from Quillen’s. Not because I’m unhappy with my one from Fennells, but because I like to spread business around if I can. Additionally, two thumbs up for Walsh as well. I bought a plain leather turnout halter for my last horse from them, and that sucker wore like IRON.
I’ve got a couple Pink Equine bridles and really like the quality. They make a black padded halter with a colored crownpiece, if you want something a little different.
And the exchange rate is fantastic right now. So tempting to order a bunch of stuff sits on hands

I’ll second Quillin’s - beautiful materials and workmanship and they last forever.
I love my Walsh halter as well. Definitely an investment though, I think mine was around $90 but it’s going strong after 4 years and is currently being used for daily turnout.
