Title says it all. What is your favorite liniment? What do you find most effective and long lasting? Price effective as well.
thanks!

Sore no more. Kinda pricey I guess. I had a horse who pulled his groin area and it was recommended from our vet (this was a long time ago) made a huge difference. Vetrolin is good as well, always used that more as a bath brace.
I also use sore no more. I like BOTs Limber Up as well.
Keep in mind, some liniments may not meet USEF testing standards.
I make up a liniment with arnica flowers and cheap vodka. It’s not the same as Sore No More (that is made with witch hazel and probably some other stuff), but it works great. When it’s very cold in the winter I sometimes put it on my guy’s back before a ride, along with his Back on Track mesh sheet.
My other go to is Vetrolin. I keep both my arnica sauce and Vetrolin in my trailer and in the barn. From my reading of the 2019 Drugs and Medications pamphlet neither arnica in the SNM nor camphor or the other active ingredients in Vetrolin are prohibited.
Vetroline Linament or Back On Track Limber Up
Hiya! For legs, I love the Sore No More line, also like the Absorbine Veterinary liniment. For a whole body liniment wash down I prefer vetrolin - it also smells great and helps cut the sweat and scurf! Happy Sunday!
I use pure old fashioned alcohol, in a spray bottle. Also will put Vetrolin in a spray bottle as well.
Vetrolin if we’re home for awhile as it does have testable ingredients per USEF.
At shows I like Sore No More Performance as it is USEF safe.
I like a mixture of Bigeloil (or alcohol) with glycerine and DMSO - works great! Use it on my poor joints and other aches as well.
Which Sore No More?
The gelotion one in the purple bottle. I felt like it was easier to apply!
I use tenda, have been using it for the last couple of years on my jumping pony who had both front tendon issues. I also use Bigeloil. I’ve tried the sore no more performance the one with the gold label. Been wanting to try the runner relief (the poultice) but haven’t gotten around to ordering it yet.
If it’s REALLY hot, Absorbine with a richer mix in warm water. It can freeze a horse fast. Too bad they discontinued their “Winterfresh” (Or some such name) liniment. I helped a photographer friend do photo shoots of a bunch of Absorbine products and re froze Gin to death almost with that stuff. Mas not diluted enough and had to put a wool cooler on him and walk for a while due to him shaking like a leaf.
Normal show use, just add alcohol to warm water.
Em
Do you have a good source for the arnica flowers?
My go-to is the Sore No More (SNM) Gelotion, I find it’s the easiest to apply (my mare hates bottle sprays), most effective and it smells great which is a bonus. I also use a homemade mixture of equine witch hazel and apple cider vinegar (1:3). So for every 1 cup witch hazel I add 3 of apple cider vinegar. I know there’s quite a few other variations but that’s just my personal preference.
I am sorry, offhand I can’t remember. I ordered a huge silver bag of them a couple of years ago from a place that sells bulk herbs and dried flowers and such. Shop around a bit! I got the 1lb bag and certainly did not pay $100, which is what some places charge; I got mine for something like $12. 1 lb of arnica flowers is a lot and will last a long time if it is in one of the airtight-ish silver herb storage bags.
I soak a whole pile of them in extremely cheap vodka from one of the large plastic bottles. I soak my mix in a glass container with a tight lid until the color is fairly dark. This usually takes a couple of weeks. Then I strain out the flowers, compost them, and then put the liquid in bottles. I have some in a spray bottle but the sprayer gets clogged, so generally I just use one with a squeeze top, like an empty SNM bottle. I always notice a difference when I’m using it in my own hands (I have arthritis), and it’s a workable, WAY cheaper alternative than actual SNM (although I recognize that it’s a very good brand, I’m just cheap!)
Sore No More, Vetrolin, and Limber Up are all ones I have used that have worked well!
Absorbine.
Sore no more in a spray bottle, vetrolin in rinse water at home, 50/50 alcohol/vetrolin coming off marathon (non usef/fei) or just alcohol if usef/FEI.
