Favorite online shop for western gear!

Just wondering where you might like shopping for western tack and such! I have a horse that was western trained and I have a saddle but no accoutrements to go with it (pad, cinch, headstall, reins, nothing!). I’m not looking to spend a fortune (maybe for the pad, those things sure are different than what I use with my dressage stuff) but I’m not looking for bargain bin either.

I haven’t used a western anything since I was maybe 9 y/o, lol. I will definitely need a friend to help me do up the cinch because I really don’t remember at all how to do that.

Thank you in advance!

Riding Warehouse has an okay western section and their service is good.
For basic stuff, I often just get it from Amazon!
Otherwise, statelinetack/horse.com

I like Schneiders (sstack.com) for most items, and sometimes Amazon - if I know exactly what I need and I am familiar with the manufacturer/quality.

NRS World and Teskeys are major all western retailers.

We can probably recommend good brands for certain items, and then you can search for best prices.

I get a good chunk of my tack, both English and Western, from eBay and other second hand/consignment sites. It’s a great way to get nice stuff for a fraction of the retail price, if you know what to look for. Schneider’s is a pretty good site as well, and SmartPak has some nice Western tack (the SmartPak laced trail reins they have are awesome, and I’m pretty particular about my reins).

For good quality that doesn’t break the bank, I highly recommend a lot of Weaver brand Western tack. They have different levels of quality, but most of the time, even their nicest stuff is very reasonably priced while being comparable to $$$ name brands (especially in the way of headstalls, reins, etc.). I’ve gotten most of mine from local feed/farm supply stores, and like their harness leather tack. They have some barrel reins that are suede-covered that I’ve loved for nearly 20 years and have a few pairs of, too. Pretty much the only thing I actively avoid are their cheaper bits that are chrome-plated (as I don’t do chrome-plated bits in general). Their nylon halters and lead ropes have been a staple in my tack room for decades as well.

This is where I get most of my western working stuff. They have everything and their customer service is excellent. They do sell a lot through Amazon, too, but if you go directly to NRSworld.com you’ll save a few bucks.

If I know what I want and Riding Warehouse happens to have it, I’ll often order from them because they’re only one state away (Calif.) and they include a return shipping label inside the box so if whatever I ordered isn’t right, I can send it back easily.

Another place I’ll give a shout out to is Rod’s, if only because I’ve gotten several decent straw hats from them. They’ll shape them as you wish and I’ve never been unhappy.

Just a heads up - that is the wrong URL. nrsworld.com is the one you want

I do know photographer Kirstie Marie has a discount code for NRS. KJ10
(i have no affiliation with her, just follow her on socials)

 Thanks! Edited to correct. In this day and age, I almost don’t want to find out where the wrong link would take someone.

I’m overwhelmed! I didn’t realize Riding Warehouse had western stuff so I might just start there because yes, they are 1 state away and I get stuff fast.

I’m gonna look at all of these! I like pretty blingy things but again, I don’t want to go crazy since this is not my main gig with regards to riding.

I’m a little overwhelmed by the saddle pads - is the felt backed kind the better choice?? They all seem so thick and bulky.

Five Star makes a great pad and you can get different thickness. Check out how the saddle fits but usually 1/2" or 3/4" is plenty.
