Favorite Places to shop for Dog Items?

I just adopted a pup last week from the ASPCA and since he is technically my first dog (I grew up with dogs but this is the first time I have a dog that I’m fully responsible for, not my parents). I thought I would reach out to the Chronicle forums to see if any of you had any favorite websites for dog related items (toys, food, treats etc.) - bonus points if the websites sell at a lower price than Petco/Petsmart etc. and/or have free shipping.

Thanks!

Chewy.com Love them, love their prices and love their customer service.

For general items like bowls, toys, and brushes: Amazon. Food and treats: Chewy. Consumable chew items: BestBullySticks.com often runs sales. Leashes and collars I prefer a good leather worker and supporting a small business like FoxFire Leather. Tags are becoming more of an artsy thing like Fetching Tags. Blankets/coats depends on breed and needs but Hurtta, Chilly Dogs, and Ruffwear are good. When he can be trusted with a big kid bed, Orvis is outstanding.

I don’t have much ‘stuff’ for my dog, but I always check where they are made - never pick up anything not made in US or Canada, especially treats. Never trust what is in them from offshore.

Some rawhides can be swallowed and get stuck and they don’t dissolve if a piece
gets torn off.

I had a bully stick - it is a long dried bull penis - and she jumped off the ottoman with it sticking straight out of her mouth - she could have banged it into the floor and jammed it down her throat - have to think of things like that.

Sometimes the squeaker gets chewed and falls out., etc.

Bonus poins - Costco sells huge dog beds very inexpensively ($40.00 Canadian, less in US I’d expect). Lovely soft fabric. Nice thick stuffing.

They are nice and big for my Boxer, but if you have a chi, would be kinda large.

Thanks for those suggestions! I’ll definitely check those places out

I second Chewey.com. They have a plethora of items and ship FAST. With no tax and free shipping, is there any other way to go? My rescue has allergy issues and they have a fantastic variety of dog food all in one place, along with supplements too! Great customer service!

Amazon. I admit that I will shop locally for things to find out what they like, but if it’s something I like to keep in the house at all times (their favorite chewies, fish oil, stuff like that).

I found the most incredible dog bed at Boots and Barkley. — I think it is the Majestic Pet Bagel Bed, or it might be the Milo Oval Cuddler Bed

My dogs prefer it to the couch or the bed! And it was quite cheap.

Boots and Barkley sell through outlets like Target, but I do not have one near me, so I ordered from them. It came in 3 days.

Chewy is a first choice.

If you go to a local Petco, ask for their new adopted pup coupon book: lots of deals on many things.

For Oinkies chew sticks and dog beds - on sale for $19.99, and underpads and babywipes for accidents, I like Bi-Mart.

Jefferspet for vaccines if you do that yourself…

Sometimes even Dollartree will have toys or bowls, buckets, totes or similar items.

Chewy.com is great, some of their prices are less than half of what petco/petsmart charges. Shipping is free over $50 and they have awesome customer service.

My first order from them was accidentally delivered to the wrong address, I called to let them know and they immediately shipped out a new order, and told me if I needed the dog food right away to go buy a small bag of the brand I ordered and they would reimburse me. I was seriously impressed!

For collars/leashes I like Bold Lead Designs, really good quality leather, and its a women owned small business. I ordered one of their leashes, and I will order a collar once the puppy is done growing. https://boldleaddesigns.com/

Another vote for Chewy.com.

Drs Foster and Smith have a good selection and sometimes great sales.

Chewy.com is THE BEST! I also find that Jeffers has good dog items at fair prices.

Chewy! And if you are in NYC I have some local recommendations as well

If you want to-die-for leather goods, Quillan Leather and Tack in Paris, Ky is the gold standard. It makes top end horse halters for champion racehorses, and 10 years ago they branched out to dogs, key fobs, leather book covers, gorgeous belts (you can get nameplates for all your favorite dogs or horses put on the belts or key fobs) and just about every leather product you have ever needed, but did not know it until now.

Your order will only be limited by your pocketbook, because you will want to buy everything.

I am in NYC! Would love any local recommendations you might have

Anothee vote for chewy.

The customer service is great and they ship so fast I’m not sure they are bound by the space time continuum like the rest of us.

If you order in the morning it may well be on your porch the next day.
