Favorite portable light--flashlight, lantern, ? Solar?

For doing nighttime checks in barns, sheds, or other buildings without electricity–what hand-carried light source do you like? Some type of rechargeable lantern makes sense to me but I’d love to get recommendations rather than playing “Amazon Roulette.”

Something that casts light out at least 6-12 feet–and illuminates that size area enough that you can get a good look around–would be great. Without being blindingly bright if it gets in someone’s eyes  which is why I’d hesitate to get e.g. a big Maglite flashlight.

Thanks

I like head lamps.

I have 2 of these. Rechargeable, doesn’t take up a lot of room, magnetic, and has a couple of levels of brightness. I’ve been impressed with their durability.

I have three of these. VERY bright. Rechargable fairly quickly. https://www.harborfreight.com/845-lumen-underhood-rechargeable-work-light-63990.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=12144968772&campaignid=12144968772&utm_content=117441039832&adsetid=117441039832&product=63990&store=468&gclid=Cj0KCQjw5JSLBhCxARIsAHgO2Sdt2vYSaX_puOhwRMA3_NXrWent0VyiM26KflAdbX8beq0FLJyi6voaAlOzEALw_wcB

Thanks for all the great suggestions!

The Fenix PD40R. Pocket size and rechargeable. Easily adjustable patterns from wide to almost laser-like spot with a twist ring. Five intensity levels changed by a button press. 3,000 lumens on highest setting. It is expensive. Mine stays in a wall mount next to my back door, and any time I exit at night, to walk to the barn or travel somewhere else, it goes into my pocket.
