I’m in the market for some new breeches, mainly to be used in schooling shows/horse trials. I prefer knee patch with a euro seat to full seat. I haven’t bought show breeches in years and am overwhelmed by all the different brands. Any suggestions? Bonus points if they’re around $100 (but I know that might be asking too much). Thanks in advance!
Piper’s have worked well for me. I have full seat, but I’m assuming they have knee patch options. I wouldn’t recommend them for everyday riding, as they start to pill in the seat but for a few times a year, they do the job.
Look into the Greenhawk Chelsea breech. They’re $160 Canadian so if you’re in the states it would be a good deal for you. Sizing wise, I found them to run large, but they come in tons of colours and are similar to a tailored sportsman look.
Horze Grand Prix have quickly become my favorite. They have knee patch and full seat in a variety of colors including white and tan. Very comfortable (for real, they’re so stretchy) and thick enough to not show the world your underwear, but not so thick that they’re hot or uncomfortable. They’ve stood up to some definite abuse. I buy from Riding Warehouse with a coupon, so they’re at or under $100.
I’m with MsRidiculous. I love the Horze Grand Prix breeches. I ride hunters in the knee patch version and everything else in the full seat silicon. I do have the regular full seats as well but I much prefer the silicon now that it is an option. I also have a pair of Horze Kiana with the full seat silicon (scroll design) that I wear for dressage. Horze often has sales and are now being carried by others, like SmartPak, State Line, Riding Warehouse, etc. So you can shop for the best price.
I also like the SmartPak Hadleys. I’m not a huge fan of the Pipers because I was constantly having to pull them up. Good luck!
SmartPak Hadleys are great and fit your description - they don’t have the pulling-up and pilling issues mentioned about the Pipers. And, wait a couple of weeks and they will almost certainly be part of whatever sale SmartPak does for 4th July.
Thanks for the great recommendations, everyone!
Second vote for the Hadleys. I have a schooling pair in french gray and a white pair for showing. I would say they tend to run a bit smaller. Unfortunately, the knee patch Hadley’s don’t come in white, but you can totally do schooling shows and horse trials in beige.
They are $110 with shipping on eBay, but I’ve had a pair of the Eurostar Dorina Flex breeches for 5 years and still get compliments on them. The European breeches really seem to last longer and are more flattering in my opinion
.
I really like Ovations in the Euroweave fabric (they have a few different models). The fabric wears like iron, is woven not knit, breathes well in Florida heat and humidity, and doesn’t cling to every little bulge.
