Favorite Stable Sheet

I am in the market for a sheet to put on my guy for shows. I was looking at horseware and I am just so confused, there are so many sheets. I would have to order online so I can’t feel and get an idea of what the sheets is like. Most seem to be “ring spun” material what is this? Is that what I want. Open to other brands as well.

I need something that can stay on over night to keep him clean
Nothing mesh
Shavings won’t stick to it
Washable

Looked at rambo stable sheet, and rambo helix sheet whats the difference?

Any suggestions appreciated

Thanks

Is it just for cleanliness? You might try a good old baker sheet. I love those. I have one but it is a little too small for my mare. I love a wool dress blanket just because I can put it over an anti sweat after a bath when it’s cold and it keeps my mare at the perfect temp, plus I can layer it under her medium weight turn out if it gets really cold. Or just let her wear that if she is stabled. Have not noticed any problems from shavings and it breathes. My Rambo polar fleece tears and shavings stick to it, so I just keep that in the trailer for whatever. My mare is clipped and must haves are a turn out sheet, a medium turn out blanket, an anti sweat and a wool dress sheet. But I live in Georgia.

Big D!
shavings will not stick and they last forever!

I have the Horseware Amigo stable sheet and really like it. The shavings brush off it well and it’s a nice polished look for at horse shows.

I had a Rambo Newmarket Stable Sheet that I really liked. It always washed beautifully (in Rambo Wash solution) and looked like new. It repelled dirt and shavings reasonably well.

If you don’t want shavings to stick to it… don’t buy a Baker.

I personally hate cotton, wool, poly-blend stable “sheets”. They stick to their horse’s hair and pull and tug and rub, and they also get filthy with hay and shavings in about 45 seconds in a stall. When I worked as a groom we all hated them, they needed to be washed far more often, they were too heavy for a regular washer, and they had to hang dry, which took FOREVER. But of course, the traditional Baker sheet is still the H/J “look”.

I personally would get a stable “blanket” with a light fill (50-100g) vs a “sheet”. The blankets are typically nylon lined and will glide over the hair, and the outside is usually a low denier nylon, which shavings won’t stick to. They are still breatheable with the new technologies we have in blanket materials. And a lightweight stable blanket will also weigh less than a baker will, which I personally think is more comfortable for the horse.

Of course, if you board at a barn where everyone has the same stuff, you should check with management there about what exactly they want you to provide.

I second this. For shiny coats and avoiding shavings sticking to everything, it’s hard to beat nylon. I’m a Schneider’s fan, myself, but any nylon sheet will do the trick, as long as it fits well.

Schneiders or Radon are my go-to’s.

I like my Helix sheets for keeping the inside of turnouts from getting disgusting when the boys have come in nasty and it’s too cold for a bath, but they need a blanket on (I promise I groom them. They’re boys, though.). The Helix sheets are washable and shavings don’t stick too much. My only qualms: I’ve found that on my narrower guys that they tend to hang too low in the back and hang out of the blankets they’re under and tend to slide back and end up pretty tight at the chest. I’m in the process of switching to a Big D under layer to solve those problems.

Definitely Schneiders. Go with the nylon. They have different cuts to choose from.

I have this and love it. It holds up well and stays clean. It’s also really easy for me to wash at home if needed. I had amigos in the past that shrunk after one wash so tend to avoid those. The Rambo is nice but a little heavy, thicker double layer of fabric I think. I’ve also got a helix which I really like. It’s a very light single layer closer to the Schneider’s, but it doesn’t clean as well. I tend to avoid nylon stable sheets just because at two different boarding barns I saw a nylon stable sheet mistaken as a waterproof turnout sheet and the horses ended up soaked.

I have the Rambo helix and really like it. It does pretty well with shavings and keeps my girl warm enough down to 40 degrees or so inside. Fits her fabulously well with the v-front closure too.

I just bought a new set from Schneiders. Stable sheet with a liner to layer with. Hoping that it will give me the flexibility I need for the roller coaster of temps we experience in my area. They also have a huge blanket sale going on until the 31st of January. We actually just re-outfitted half our herd in the hopes of getting some of the smaller ones into some better fitting blankets. We have been a tried and true Baker family, and I think the Bakers still have their time/place, but I do like the no shavings stuck to everything look…haha.
