Favorite stud container/organizer?

I am doing a lot of organizing during this downtime and want to know what you’re keeping your studs and corresponding studding equipment in. I have been using an older tackle box, but am looking for an option that keeps the studs in place if it gets tipped over, and also has room for wrench, stud dish, WD40, plugs, etc.

What are your favorites?

The tackle box we use (have had it about 15 years) has adjustable little square boxes on the top “shelf”, and a large open area under the lift out shelf. The only problem I ever had with it, was that I kind of wanted to have a different set of studs in each little box --you know, a “complete set” --but I don’t know that that many studs exist. Even so, any time I saw a different kind, I’d buy 4 or 8 to add to my collection. In all honesty, the event horses used pretty much the same style studs unless the ground was unusual —hard clay or deep, deep turf might make me pull out something different. I always wanted to use the mud studs, but when the footing was that horrible, the CC was rescheduled for a subsequent day.

I did discover (and this was as I said, 15 or so years ago) that there is a bit of art to selecting studs, more than an exact answer. Since I was always the groom and never the rider, studs were my job (daughter rode, and had left the stud decision to me). I truly enjoyed sitting with the other grooms (some groomed for big-name riders!!) and chatting about which studs to use —occasionally --the big name riders would pull up a hay bale and join the discussion —Bruce Davidson was one who did, and I think Dorothy Crowel? but might have been Cathy Wieschhoff --were a couple that did join the discussion --usually during a rain delay as we went back and forth about this stud or that —I mostly just listened and asked questions because I was just a mom --but seems like the more renowned the rider was, the nicer they were to “us grooms.”

Thanks! ![]( ended up ordering this one from Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000E3C3JY?tag=amz-mkt-chr-us-20&ascsubtag=1ba00-01000-org00-win10-other-nomod-us000-pcomp-feature-scomp-wm-5&ref=aa_scomp_srdg2).

It appears that the dividers are pretty customizable, so I’m hoping I can fit most of my stud stuff in it! Will report back for others who may be in the market.

I know you’ve already bought one, but I have one like this that is super handy. Got it at Tractor Supply or Target for ~$20, and it came with the plastic cases. I put the magnetic stud cup and tee tap in one of the outside pockets.

You may like it OP. That one didn’t work for me. I’m trying to remember what I disliked…I think I broke the top part or something like that. But these things are very personal…and we are forever looking for a better one!!

Wanted to add that I use a pill carrier and put the studs in that I plan to use that day. It’s easier to carry around and less a chance of spilling all your studs if you are using a tackle box.

I just take the magnetic dish, awl (to pull out plug its) and t-tap along with the pill carrier to change his studs instead of taking the whole box.

This is what I used, and they hold up really well. The only reason I had to replace one was because it was stolen. Fixed compartments, with many smaller ones perfect for studs, and two larger ones to hold tools, stud plug sheets, etc.

We like to get a small 12-15” tool box and use a fishing lure organizer for the studs inside. These have plenty of room for ratchets, magnet dish, plugs, etc. My husband loves to do the horse’s studs and has made some nifty stud kits for my trailer and at home. I’ve found it gives me a lot more flexibility, and is quite a bit smaller, that smaller fishing lure tackle boxes. Bonus he just found me a cool blue metal one at TSC!
