Favorite Tall Boots for Under $1k

I have Parlanti’s, and while they are beautiful boots, they are definitely not made to last. I also have DeNiros which are close to 7 years old now, and while I haven’t worn them lately, they were my daily boots for ~5 years including a working student stint in which I rode 5+ horses a day and bathed and did chores in them and they still polish up to look like new.

Another option to look at is the Tucci boots, if you buy them from Europe (same with the Parlanti and DeNiro, SO much cheaper to order from Europe). I have a few friends that have the Marilyn model and they are both beautiful and look quite durable.

I know they have a crappy reputation here, but Just Riding is where I ordered my Parlantis and I know lots of other people who have ordered from them and they have always been really great for everyone I know. I got my boots on one of their “special orders that didn’t get picked up” sale, and I got my Miami boots for $380 CAD shipped, and they shipped the day after I ordered (on a Wednesday) and arrived in Canada by the Monday.

I’m definitely looking for something that will hold up. I don’t ride as much as I used to when I was in school but still love the idea of a boot that can stand up to multiple days of riding/multiple horses should I find myself in that position again.

I have heard really good things about Tucci, but think they might be out of my price range right now. Do you know about how much less the boots are when you order directly from Europe? I’m going to Europe later this summer so that might be dooable. Also - have you (or anyone who has bought from Europe) had any issues with customer service after? In the event that you had to get the boots repaired, was it harder to get it repaired if it was bought in Europe?

I have personally not dealt with customer service after the fact as I haven’t had an issue with my boots (yet, knock on wood!). From Just Riding in particular, the Tucci Marylin boots are $780CAD/$580USD and the Parlanti Miami are $710CAD/$528USD with shipping (to Canada, I would assume US shipping is the same). One of my barnmates just ordered a pair of Miami’s the other day. From what I remember, they shipped DHL and there were no customs fees, but I did have to pay the courier-specific fee I can’t remember the name of. If you do purchase them in Europe, be sure to let them know that you are a non-EU resident so they can fill out the VAT forms for you so you can claim it back. It’s ~20% in most of Europe.

ETA: the prices quoted above are without VAT. It took me a while to find on the site, but to have that price show up you need to use the discount code “tax free” when checking out

I also have the Ego 7s as they fit perfectly. Try a few brands on as they all fit differently, Deniros were much too narrow and when I found a pair that zipped they were too baggy but they are beautiful! Tuccis, well drool, but holy $$$$$ so I went with his cheaper version the Egos

Another vote for Deniros! I bought a pair last fall, rode in them 3 times to break them in and then showed with them at the Royal West. They weren’t slippery at all. It was also the best/easiest boot shopping experience I’ve ever had.
The rep looked me up and down and handed me the perfect boot.
I’m 5’6" but have long legs so had always been told I needed a tall boot which just resulted in them getting pushed down once I was on a horse and then the ugly saggy ankles. This rep said the regular height was perfect (it is) and gave me a heel lift to make it easier on my ankles.

I only show in them but they seem like they’ll last forever as long as my legs don’t get fat…

I looked at the Ego7 after I bought my Deniros and I’m glad I didn’t get them. They didn’t seem like a very classic boot and 90% of showing is in the hunter ring.

If the OP is looking for something durable, my every day books are Romitelli (brown field boots, no less). They’ve got a bit thicker soles than my De Niros and the leather isn’t as soft. The latter was not a good feature while breaking them in, but I suspect that they’ll last longer.

By the way, these Silipos ankle things (https://www.amazon.com/Wide-Tubing-Ankle-Sleeve-Silipos/dp/B00JFTW43I?th=1) were a life saver while breaking in the boots. I’m pretty sure they’re the same as the Equifit ones, but cost half. I suppose this might warrant its own thread…

Ego7 are impossible to beat for the price ($499). Made by Tucci. Synthetic calf panel, so it’s tough; and there are 14 calf/height combinations for each foot size.

If you really like the look of the Parlantis they have a new(?) model called the Denver which is supposed to be more durable but looks just as nice as the Miami. I haven’t tried them but if I had an extra $1,000 to spend on boots that’s what I’d get.

The Denver is the same boot as the Miami without laces. The Ocala is a buffalo boot and the boot you’re thinking of is the Dallas, which is also round toe.

I’ve got the off-the-rack Sergio Grasso Imperia and it’s a beautiful boot that comes in lots of size combinations for $799. https://www.smartpakequine.com/pt/sergio-grasso-imperia-field-boot-9417

I got a deal on Sergio Bergamos (now discontinued model replaced by Imperias). Very nice and durable.
