Favourite riding boots?

Hi all,

I’m currently on the look out for a new pair of tall riding boots. I bought my first pair of leather boots last year (had always had cheap rubber boots) but they’re falling apart already (outer leather is rubbing off and found my first hole yesterday. They are a pair of Dublin Arderins. I don’t want to make the same mistake of buying boots that will only last a year!

I’m currently looking at a pair of Ego7 Aries. I’m only just getting back into eventing also, so any suggestions are appreciated!

I love Deniro. Everything is customizable, which is both a plus and a minus. I spent months laboring over stitching color, wood heel color, combinations of different leathers. I have both tall boots (brushed burgundy) and paddock boots with gaiters (brushed green), brushed leather and regular. I much prefer the brushed leather. I think it wears much nicer and gives a more polished look. It’s certainly sturdier. Having been through a few years now of very wet winters, I can say that they hold up quite well. I’m terrible and give my boots quite a beating. They’re expensive but will last a lifetime with proper care. I’ve both measured myself and met with a rep for measurements. I can’t suggest doing the measurements oneself, which is why I have a pair of tall boots currently for sale. I think I wore them all of ten times and gave up. Feel feel to PM me for photos.

Instagram is where I found the best photos.

What is your price range?

I love my Ariats

I bought mine used so not really sure how old they are, but I’ve had them for around 5 years. They are so comfortable. The heel came off the sole and I gorilla glued it back on :yes: not sure if that lets you know I’m an Ariat boot lover or just a cheap ass

Thank you! They are beautiful!

At the moment I’m probably willing to pay up to around $1,000 AUD if boots are going to last for several years. I found a COTH thread from 2016 that the quality of Ariats don’t seem to very good at that time or they are hit/miss.

I recently switched to Ego7 from Ariat and it’s a huge quality improvement. They also have a lot of sizes and they fit me as well as my custom Der Daus.

Depending on budget, I am definitely the one with a low budget and surprisingly LOVE my Heritage Ellipse Tall Riding Boot

I have two pairs, as they were on sale, I have the Ostrich and Snake Skin pair, and I absolutely love them. The Ostrich I ride in every single day, after a year, only the lace has broken on one, I can handle that. The other pair are my show pair, and I absolutely love both.

I’m also used to having hand-me-downs so maybe I just have low expectations.

LOVE my ego 7’s. Most durable tall boots I’ve had in years

I love the Ariat Volants for comfort, a cushier footbed than most other boots. I also have a pair of Ariat Monaco’s for showing, and I have a pair of Ariat Maestro dressage boots that have lasted a decade. The cheaper ariats don’t seem to last as long, but my daughter got a couple of years out of the Heritage model. I’ve been tempted by some of the Italian Pioneer boots, which are surprisingly affordable.

For starters, I suggest trying on every make of tall boot that you can find. I live in an area dominated by the Ariat brand, which didn’t fit me well. Ultimately, I ended up buying a pair of tall boots made by Petrie. I purchased their Melbourne boot back in 2017. The boots have held up extremely well, and fit like a glove. Comfortable to wear from the get go with no breaking in period. I purchased them from this company: https://www.ooteman.nl/ladies/riding…elbourne-black I am almost tempted to purchase a 2nd pair, but in brown. I like them that much.

This might be a weird question, but how wide is your foot? IME I’ve found that Ariats fit my feet very well because my feet are narrow, however Tredsteps have worked for a few people I know with much wider feet. Idk if boot companies sell different foot widths, I’d assume they might but ???

I love my Ariats personally, the zippers have never given out, the leather is lovely and they’re super comfortable. I have a pair of the Heritage Contour II’s in Sienna which I absolutely adore (I’ve always wanted brown boots!) and my older pair were the Volants. Both are fabulous, if you want a more sneaker feel I’d go with the V Sport II (they’re closing out the Volants I believe) because they have a memory foam footbed but the Contour II’s are comfortable as well. The Tredsteps I tried on when looking for boots were comfy too, but too wide. Seeing as you’re willing to spend more Ariat’s higher end boots are nice too, I’m a sucker for bling so I love the Vortex boots but I can’t spend $500 on boots :o.

I don’t know how much you ride, but if you ride a considerate amount (3+ days a week) I’d stay away from Tuffrider boots, I bought them and the next month the soles were coming off and the leather was peeling.

I tried on the Ego 7’s that Dover had just for kicks and idk if it’s because my foot is just so narrow or because of the boot itself but I found them very sticky, if that makes sense? Like, there was no room for my foot except for where my foot took up. Could just be me, idk.

Obviously those are non-custom boot suggestions, if you want customs go for it but seeing as you’re getting back into riding that seems like quite a bit of money (Granted, I’ve always been told Custom boots are for pros ). Like Erika said though, try on lots of boots  if you can look at consignment stores too, a friend found a pair of really nice custom-made Fabbri’s for $250 that fit her exactly. Obviously that’s a rare case, but still, it’s worth trying!

I love my tattinis, they are durable and comfortable. Tuffriders are also ok, they dont last very long. I love my Sergio Grassos as well.
