Favroite XC Boots

I’m looking for people’s suggestions and opinions on some XC boots that I could use for schooling. I’ve looked at Professional’s Choice, Majyk Equipe, and LeMieux. Any opinions on these or other brand suggestions. I would like to stay under $200/pair if I can.

Thanks!

The Prof Choice are well-made and offer good protection but they’re stiff and don’t shape to the leg. My horse found them uncomfortable, some other horses in my barn have no problem with them. I haven’t heard great things about the LeMieux boots but haven’t used them myself. I have the Stubben Hybrid boots now which are great but over your budget. TBH I’m not sure you’ll be able to get a set of 4 x-country boots with strike plates for under $200 unless you go used, but if you aren’t using studs I just use normal open-front boots up front which are much cheaper.

It really depends on what brand fits your horse best as I’ve found not all horses will fit in a given brand (they’ll be between sizes justtt enough).

The LeMieux boots I had popped seams with minimal use (like, less than 5 rides). Riding Warehouse replaced them the first time but when the second pair did the same thing I wrote off that brand/style.

The only bad thing about the Majyk Equipe boots I had was they could be tedious to clean if you schooled in a very sandy area. The sand would get in the inner holes and was hard to get out. Otherwise, they wear great and did the job.

I also had Premier Equine boots. I got them after the Majyk boots and I liked that they cleaned up super easy and the strike plates were no joke but I wonder how much hotter they may have been. I found the sizing to be very tall fwiw.

I have a pair of Lemieux boots that, although being well made and looking nice, are very cupped around the bottom and gave my horse some pretty ugly boot rubs. It’s a shame because they’re very nice and statically they look like they fit him well, but the rubs say otherwise.

I really like the PremierEquine hind boots, but my horse did NOT like them. They’re super light, well made, no spinning, no getting hot, but something about the fit he just did not like.

I have an old pair of Dalmar fronts that fit him really well and I’m very happy with. He’s also happy in them, no rubs/heat/spinning. I just use cheap Woof brushing boots on his hinds since we have no UL aspirations, and he likes them. They get a little warm but don’t hold water or spin, and they’re very flat/straight so there’s no cupping that rubs him.

I really like the equilibrium boots with the little squares on the inside. They’re initially stiff, but break in nicely.
