Does anyome have a featherlite 9407? I’m probably going to be getting a trailer soon and my horse has always trailered in one since both of my trainers have one. My mare is a 5 year old 16.2 oldenburg mare so she’s going to grow and she wears an 82-84 blanket so I think I’m going to have to get a wb sized one. Anyone have any thoughts? Good or bad
Yes I do! I have it in the gooseneck configuration with custom height. We had it made with the height at 8’3" as we had a Clydesdale at the time. There is nothing not to love about this trailer. It is light weight, compact and just an easy trailer. I got the configuration with the mangers and the aisle way as it gives my daughter somewhere “safer” to go if things do go bad. Fortunate to say we have never needed it that way! Ony thing I do have to say is that it can be noisier inside than my Trails West 4 horse, but I have never had a problem loader with it. It is a mild complaint though and I would buy another in a heartbeat. Mine is the 2005 model. Holds up well and the extra height to me made it the most inviting trailer I have ever used! Sounds silly, but it is massively tall with those extra few inches. Good luck!

How toll is the tack room part of the trailer? I know the far side where I’m planning to get bridle racks etc. I’m looking at the squat bars that k can hang stuff on so how tall is the tack room area? I know it’s 4’ wide
You may want to do a search on the issue of mangers in a trailer.

Definitely am im just having a hard time finding one. Ideas on where to look?
If you are ordering it brand new, they do have a “walk through” version w/o the mangers. There was one for sale locally advertised as a “9407 B”.
My tack room area is 8’3" inside just the same as the interior of the trailer. I have the bridle racks on the back of the mangers in the tack room and the saddle racks are under where the mangers are. I do not transport anyone but my own horses and no young stock, so the issue with the mangers for me was not a concern. They all trailer well and like I said I love the pass thru door with the area between so that we can attach trailer ties etc without crawling out escape doors or ducking under breast bars. To each their own. For me this was my choice for a run around local trailer that has been a solid investment and served me well without issue. Do not own a Clydesdale any longer, so a bit overkill on height! My daughters 11.3 pony used to look so funny in it! If I want the LQ I take the big trailer. But this one is my main stay. Hope that this is helpful. What works for one person may not work for another. Such as, I would not haul foals in my Featherlite, but we don’t have foals.

Many of the previous threads about trailers have discussions about mangers. I personally would never purchase a trailer with mangers, but of course that is a personal decision. IME they do make it much harder to resell.

I have the Featherlite model (not sure if it is 9407 but looks like images that come up from the Google search).
I told OP in the other thread about my manger incident. Loading a mare, she panicked (when another horse loading in a nearby trailer took off loose), reared and got her front feet on the manger a scrambled for a few minutes. She eventually got her self free and back down but tore her head open to the scalp. Needless to say, horse made a full recovery and now trailers fine in a big stock trailer. But I am much more careful to only haul horses that have had a lot of trailering/hauling experience (or I put a ‘babysitter’ in with them).
I wouldn’t buy a trailer with mangers again. You can easily have hay bags which wouldn’t cause any harm if a horse did something stupid. Only down turn is you loose space in the dressing room (where the built in saddle racks are).
I have a 9407 that is 7’6" and it works perfect for me. I haul my 16.3 gelding a few times a month for shows and lessons. I can easily maneuver it, so if you don’t have a ton of hauling experience, it’s not intimidating. I have a solid divider so I can put my hay, feed, cooler, etc in the other stall. I don’t have manager and prefer it that way for reasons mentioned above, but do love my ramp and all the rubber on the side walls. The dressing room is just big enough for all that I need, but if I hauled a second horse, I’m not so sure it would be. Good luck in your search- I had to go from IA to IN to find mine after 3 months of looking!
Find anything else. My horse will load into any trailer…except that one. He was absolutely petrified of it. Between not being able to put his front legs in front of him for balance due to the hay mangers, not having a rear butt bar to sit on, and the overall narrower trailer and stall width, it was a train wreck. He would only go into it if I took the divider out and let him ride stock. He goes into every other straight load no problem. There are plenty of better trailers out there. Do yourself a favor and pass.
That is odd. Mine has butt bars, and the mangers are not in a position to restrict forelegs. They would have to be almost splayed out to interfere with manger. But to each their own and we all have our opinions. The vision of that is interesting though! I did myself a favor and bought!
I don’t have mangers in mine, but do have breast and butt bars. I just hang a hang bag in front of my guy and he is content. Love my trailer, but as the previous poster said, to each their own.
I am currently looking at the 9407 because it will be our trailer for when we don’t need the really big Living Quarters. It’s the one without mangers, but the tack area is actually open to the horse area. I think we may fabricate a permanently attached tack trunk to the wall so we can make sure stuff doesn’t go flying in a wreck. I did like the mangers, and was actually thinking the horse might actually appreciate having something really solid to lean into, but my husband didn’t like how you would have to lean into the horses space to clip them in. Looked good to me with a tie there, but… Anyone, have any other issues with the “open” tack area that I haven’t thought of?
bluegirl, I have rings on both sides of mangers and do not have to lean across the manger to tie in. Maybe they have changed them up recently. I do not do long distance hauls in this trailer and my horses are all pretty chill so it has been perfect. I think either way you will be very happy. I went back and forth with all the decisions of manger vs bar and open space and I am glad I chose what I did. As a general trailer it is light and easy to use. Prefer it to my big trailer for sure! Enjoy the ride!
