Featherlite or Logan??

I’m looking to buy a new 2 horse, straight load, bumper pull trailer with a nice tack room, that is a quiet and safe ride for my girls - I will mainly be transporting my 15 hand mammoth jennet and my 14 hand molly mule. Our other horses range in size from an 18 hand draft cross to a 12 hand Icelandic, and everything in between. But primarily it will be my 2 longeared girls using the trailer.

I’ve narrowed it down (I think) to either a Logan Warmblood, a Featherlite 9407, or a 4 Star with a similar configuration. I currently have a 2007 Logan stock trailer that is LOUD (as in BANGBANGBANGBANG) :disgust:

Any thoughts on ramp vs. no ramp, front escape doors, door between tack room and stall area, or other issues? I have no experience with Featherlite, or with higher end Logan Coach/Logan trailers. It’s a big investment, so I’d love to get some feedback from anyone who has gone down this path already.

Much thanks!

I can only speak to the Featherlite: I have an OLD 1995 Featherlite (2 horse straight dressing room), sturdy and quiet. My friend has a 2013 (has the walk though), it is very loud and lots of banging. So make sure to check that out. I personally am not a fan of ramps, so I think that is just personal/horse preference. Mine has escape doors (have never used, but I like to have them.) Friend has the walk through to the tack area which is never used (horses self load) and takes up head space, would not get that option. My only issue is with the butt-bar location, in my trailer they were strangely low (even though trailer is an extra tall trailer) and my horse would lean on the door. I was able to have them moved up. I say visit them all and jump around inside one a lot, maybe that will tell you the rattle-y factor. Good luck (fun purchase!)

I would go look at all the trailers that interest you. We went to a horse expo so that we could see many in one place. A bonus is that they usually have some type of special fair pricing even if you special order as we did.

We ended up with a Logan slant load that is not a stock trailer. We prefer a ramp (had one on our previous trailer too). Our last straight load had escape doors and the newer Logan has one too, as I think they are important in an emergency and handy to have for everyday use.

Have fun trailer shopping!

I had a Featherlite 3 horse gooseneck that I really liked. I had a small LQ, so had the door between that area and the first stall. I also had escape door in first stall, which I loved because I used the first stall for hauling hay to shows. Mine was a step up trailer since I don’t like ramps.

I sold it because I found I rarely used the LQ and so bought a Cimarron trailer with tack room instead.

A friend of mine has a 1985 Featherlite that still looks great and gives her horses a great ride. When I was shopping for a new trailer last year, I was impressed with the Featherlites, but discouraged by the price. I ended up with an Exiss and it is very quiet and safe. I looked at Logans, but was not impressed.

I have a two horse straight load bumperpull (2003) that now lives at the ranch for my mom to use as she doesn’t like goosenecks and a 2+1 gooseneck (2017) that I use for showing/regular hauling that are both by Featherlite. I love both of them so much!!
