Feature Wall

I don’t know if this should be on Off Topic, but I thought it would be more interesting to get ideas from those who generally hang out on this forum.

I’m thinking about making a feature wall in my house and have seen a few ideas. I’m not into shiplap, it’s too “farmish” for me. I think a single paint color is too boring. Maybe some of the more modern paneling using reclaimed wood?

Any ideas? Pintrest has a lot, but I prefer links to things I can buy, or sites with DIY instructions.

check out Houzz.com. Lots of pictures, and more and more there are links to products to purchase.

I love the look of a single wood planked wall. I also like shiplap and used it in my coastal look master bath.

This show has lots of ideas on the cheap.

That is very pretty, but also a dust catcher!

Whatever you use, remember, someone has to clean it, best be something that doesn’t need much cleaning, if that is a concern in your house, like allergies, etc.

Good point, Bluey. Then a,gain, wainscoting is worth the extra effort, and I think others might be as well.

Beautiful walls those!

I love the reclaimed wood idea. Hmmm…

We have one in the kitchen that is actually the old exterior wall of the house. It’s super cool, not really shiplap, but kind of similar.

My husband had been trying to hang sometime on the wall and couldn’t find a stud, so he cut a hold in the drywall, was he ever surprised to find solid pine boards from the 1880s! When they added the kitchen on to the back of our house they just pulled off the siding and covered it with drywall. He cleaned it up a bit, stained it and voila! Unique, re-claimed wood look

It’s a bit like this, but stained dark

I wonder if anyone does thinner panels of reclaimed wood? I’d like to have a thinner, veneer of that look on the wall.

Look for some architectural salvage places near you, you may find old floorboards or …? that can be re-purposed into a nifty wall covering. Get creative, bonus points for recycling and doing it on the cheap!

Fake reclaimed wood maybe?

This didn’t look bad to me, depends on the level of effort you’re looking for.

If you hit the 70% lumber pile at HD, the boards have more character.

(I have the 18 gauge version of the nailer mentioned in the article. I love it. I don’t find it big or bulky. I use it more than I thought I would.)

Faux brick or stone!

Look for bundles of lath.

Cheap & easily attached to a wall with halfpenny nails or glue.
you can then paint or stain.

Many years ago I did this to a rental’s kitchen - put lath up halfway & painted above.
Gave the place a nice, rustic, farmhouse feel & came down easily w/o damage when we moved.

For me, those seem a bit too thin. I think if I did wood, I’d rather have larger pieces on the wall. More like reclaimed barn wood.
