Well mow Sheila that sounds as if you might have a good resume to be our new CEO. What we really need is someone who knows most of the Pros and all of the cons. We don’t want to leave anyone of the "NON-Reinstatement List after all.
To the best of my knowledge Kathy McMullen never had a pony or showed one. If you are talking about the pony I am thinking of; it was a pony we turned down because it was over-sized and never bought it. So yes! I would have created a bru-ha! and if it’s the pony I’m thinking of it was over-sized and lost it’s pony card, went on to show in Junior Hunters where it belonged. I would have raised a stink about anyone showing inappropriately. That’s the whole point of a level playing field.
Kathy did have a horse she became afraid of because a trainer in the barn without my knowledge was training the horse to do turns on the forehand and he was an idiot and wound up instead training it to rear. Kathy happened to be fond of that trainer and trusted him.
Most of those kids have gotten married had children and a lot of them have been coming back to the shows with their children Dawn Sparrow has stayed in the business and is apparently partners with Francois Lemaire. A lot of the others have moved to places all ovr the country and I frequently get emails from the good old days.
I can’t think of any that were owned by some else within the barn. All the kids I can remember had horses. Except those I owned and the only staff member that had a pony and kept it for me it was the Entertainer aka The Colonel.
OK! Found this one and we need to start considering Rule Changes to cover support of the Court Orders. Anyone found any more pictures of the two culprits?

I think it’s important to make a statement that those who have stolen the ownership rights to a horse and been convicted should understand what it cost them. We have a Judge who took our side and now we need to know that the Federation will support the Court Orders.
I couldn’t agree more Snowbird and am working on a few things here in VA to hopefully make that possible. As I get more information and a few answers I will post…but rest assured it is something that can help those who find themselves in a situation similar to mine a few years ago. :yes:
I understand a method of identification (via USDA) of horses is in the works for all horses in the next few years and not a day too soon! The National Animal Identification System (NAIS) is a national program intended to identify specific animals in the United States and record their movement over their lifespans. It is being developed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and State agencies—in cooperation with industry—to enable 48-hour traceback of the movements of any diseased or exposed animal. This will help to ensure rapid disease containment and maximum protection of America’s animals. It may also prevent the unintentional disposal of horses and provide a basis for lifelong tracking…just think of the applications - hurricane and natural disaster displacement, EVA and other infectious problems, lost contact with first ponies, slaughter runs to Canada and fraud.
On a few other threads the ID of certain horses is in question regarding their “show” histories . Some…their ownership. Some…the way they were sold. The application of proper ID should make “trading” horses a more honest field. I am all for microchip in horses. I have known of more than a handful of horses that have had “something” happen to them exposing them to sale or a scam involving an unsuspecting person or the person knew they were getting a “deal” at someone’s expense!. This is not uncommon. In some cases, this is an intentional act. Unfortunately the MORAL COMPASS of individuals who “buy” good horses CHEAP is seldom in working order. With an ID system…the horse, their ownership and records would never get 'lost" in the shuffle and the idea of a fair trade would approximate other commission based professions.
Fortunately, as in THIS case, THE LAW stepped in and the guilty ended up doing time and making restitution.
Is it time for a rule change? I think it is…the courts should not be tied up trying to regulating the actions of criminals while the governing bodies of the sport look the other way and sit on their collective hands! It is time to name the crime and let criminals pay the consequence!
Electronic ID
I was curious so I just had five horses done with the electronic surveillance chip. It wasn’t expensive and you don’t need to buy a reader if you just want to find out where your horse went. I think it is well worth it to all horse owners. If the creeps knew they could be located by sattelite and arrested on the spot they might find another trade. I think if the foals were implnated at birth it’s cheaper than the cost to register them.

I verified that there is no legal reason why an association which is nonprofit cannot ban membership by convicted feleons involved in fraud regarding the horse industry.
I hope you will all start considering the terminology to prose such a New Rule by June.
Is anyone interested in trying to frame any Rule Changes?
I think it would be a very worthwhile project for those involved in the Virginia case to consider being proponents for rule changes that would prevent this again.
At a horse show we have no way of knowing if someone applies for a new ID number for a horse if they actually own that horse. At a horse show we do not know whether or not someone who says they are the agent for a horse is in fact a legal agent with a contract from the owner.

I simply donot understand the lack of reponse to this topic. How can everyone who owns a horse or breeds a horse not want to take action to prevent this from ever happening again to another horse person by making an example of the thieving liars.
How many horse people showed up at the Court House?
I wondered if that’s why they’re bored with this topic? They don;t realize how horrific the tricks were that the boyd played on the horse owners.

YES! the record is public and anyone can see the court record
Yes! The court made a Ruling and defined their parole terms and conditions. We want to make sure that the Federation will honor those Court Decisions by suspending their Memberships in the Federation.
Both men were listed as Members in “GOOD STANDING” on the Federation Membership List as we should know who these people are so they can be banned from shows where managers are not informed as well as those where we have been informed.
The purpose is as a deterrrent to others who may consider the same business practices. usAHSA will post that we will ban those “CONVICTED FELONS” from shows which we sanction as well as the old cases of “Horse Murder” for profit by fraud.
Snowbird…the “Good Standing” designation is certainly flawed.
Find a rule and let’s get started on making a proposal for a rule change.
