WOW that really sucks for the poor people who purchased horses from them in what they believed as good faith, and now those people are burned as well. I think its a terrible situation for the innnocent people who thought they were purchasing a horse/ pony in good faith only to find out their horse was a stolen horse/pony and can’t even show it. And of course those poor people with the pony can’t prove Keg or Josh had ownership of the pony because it obviously was stolen. What a shame.
Good question TWF…unfortunately I don’t know. Perhaps someone who is very familiar with the rules would know.
Janet…do you happen to have the answer?
From the rule book GR 703.1.c
c. SUSPENSION for any period of the horse or horses, owned by him or her, or shown in any name or for his, her, or their credit or reputation, whether such interest was held at the time of the alleged violation or acquired thereafter. The Executive Committee or the Hearing Committee may at a later date remove the suspension of said horse or horses if it is demonstrated to their satisfaction that a sale or transfer thereof was made by such person, partnership, or corporation in such as to be a bona fide transaction and not with the intention of relieving the suspended owner of penalty. See GR137.
???
Thanks Janet! Another question for you…in the case FLGal mentioned, would the current owners of the pony need a lawyer or do they try and resolve it with the USEF on their own? I feel terrible for the owners of this pony…they were innocent victims.
There are so many horses/ponies listed there are bound to be others. We all know this is not the only instance this has happened with a trainer/broker. I think it is extremely important to make people aware of what could happen when buying a horse/pony and educate themselves for their own protection.
Stolen Goods must be returned to original legal owner
That is the reason such people need to be banned for life. They use the shows to find new chickens to pluck. The receiver of stolen goods has no rights; the horse/pony is returned to the legal owner of the property and it can then be resold legally.
If we don’t back their permanent suspension it will become a bad joke. And, they can continue with their evil ways. Joe Plemmons who admitted to shooting Helen Brach in the head because she hadn’t died from the beating is selling horses in Florida according to his statement when interviewed on TV in front of his farm sign.
Hard to tell. If the pony legally belongs to the previous owner (before it was stolen by Keg and Josh) it is not owned or leased by Keg and Josh, and it shouldn’t be suspended. But it cannot be registered under the name of the people who purchased it from Keg and Josh until/unless they legally buy it from the original (current legal) owner.
It can’t legally compete until it has an HID or registration reflecting the legal owner, but I would not expect it to be on the “suspended” list.
I would definitely ask the USEF for clarification.
Interesting Janet. I do feel for the people who see their horses on the list. In many of the cases the horse was sold and the original owner only got partial payment if anything. In my case, I contacted the person who paid J/K for my pony, we drew up legal contracts stating she purchased the pony in good faith, paid $$$ to J/K and any additional $$$ owned to me were to come from J/K. It was only then did I sign over registration papers, etc.
Wow, let me know if the group on this thread is still pushing together for big changes in the industry… I’ll help however I can.
there are all kinds of ways to steal horses, our livery lien law is outdated and allows anyone to lie and say you owe board when you have another type of agreement and then the person can take you horse and pretend to sell it yet actually buy it themselves and then profit by thousands on cheating you. there are horse thieves everywhere pretending to be honest horse trainers and good christians or i should say jehovah witnesses
Stupid question here: Is there a list that would tell you WHAT someone was suspended for?
I am interested in a couple of names, since they tried to do some business with my mother. Luckily she didn’t accept their offers! Don’t want to post names publically, since I don’t know what the offense is.
???
I don’t think that is a stupid question naters. I am sure many people would like to know when trying to decided who to do business with or trust with their horses.
Perhaps I will email the USEF and ask. After all, the reason was made public when it was published in their magazine so I think they would provide it if one asked especially if they do not have it listed on their web site.
I wonder where these GUY will turn up next??? Are they allowed to show in other associations??? In VA? MD? NC? Where else…Please weigh in if you know!!
I hope they figure out how to ride western…they’d likely be dead for what they’ve done!

I heard at a super bowl party that Keg is working with horses in Suffolk! Not sure if it is true but it came from a very reliable source.
He has been dealing with horses for years and doubt that he is ever going to stop. I’m sure that he probably still has horses and is still doing business in VA. It’s all he knows so why would he stop?? All he has to do is work through some one else. But thats just my .02.
This is a copy of the probation guidelines set down by Senior Federal Judge Richard L. Williams…
“The defendant is prohibited from any employment – self-employment or employment through legitimate employer – in the equestrian/horse industry. This includes but is not limited to the buying and selling of horses, the breeding of horses, acting as an agent during the sale of horses, acting as a horse trainer, or acting as an instructor for riding lessons to any individual. The defendant is permitted to aid his mother in the care of one (1) horse only – the horse located in Chesapeake, Virginia at the date of this hearing. Further, the defendant is only permitted to care for said horse at the Chesapeake location where the horse is currently kept.”
Perhaps this particular horse has been moved to Suffolk?
Oh, I thought he said he had worked for some lab… ???
My understanding is that he is working at Shibui Ni Farm
Senior Federal Judge Richard L. Williams…is a very horse savvy judge and is aware of every detail of this probation. Those of us present in his Courtroom were very surprised when he interrogated witnesses in this case!
Make no mistake this Judge KNOWS what he means and MEANS what he says!!!
Y’all…
A WORD to the WISE…Don’t MESS with this Judge!!!

Gee, if someone notified the Judge and it checked out, he might go back to prison.
Oh and wouldn’t that just be a shame…

WOw - I just read all 26 pages of this thread (somehow missed it before). Sounds like a fantastic judge, but more than anyone, I think the victims in these crimes who fought back deserve a HUGE round of applause. WELL DONE!!!
