Silver2, I came to that conclusion a long time ago, with a slight modification- the (high end) horse show business is a way to get money from anyone the professionals can.
That covers stupid, addled, and psychiatrically disturbed targets.
As Ian Millar once said to me, “This is all just a fantasy world with these horses. We have to be careful not to get caught up in thinking it’s real.”

Get over it . Let it go and move on. That is the way life is. You win some and you loose some. Sorry about your luck.
What is wrong with you? Why so hostile? Unless you think it’s ok to steal from people and be dishonest during a sale, I cannot imagine why you would post such bizarre things. Care to disclose what your real issue is?

There are a lot of accusations being thrown out here, many of which are false. These accusations are one or more person’s opinions, and their personal views of things that they believe happened in the past, and are not based on true facts. It is a continuing case of “He said She said”.
These men have served their time and have lives to rebuild, and they deserve the opportunity to do that without being demeaned further.
EEF, so far you have FOUR posts…all in defense of the these two people. Now that seems a bit suspect to me. I have never heard of these two and I’m glad that someone is putting it out there to protect me and other people and HORSES! Now, I agree that serving time is paying the debt to society. Sounds like they didn’t pay their financial debts but none the less, you are wrong in saying that these are accusations. The court convicted them. Now if it was a child molester they would have to register and be put on the internet for what they did. As far as I’m concerned, posting this information to us is as good as the child molester lists. I’ll keep a heads up about them.
Which by the way where are they from and what do they look like and are they still “selling” horses for a living?
EEF, you are on the wrong side of the fence on this one and have lost all credibility.
New name, few posts, only one subject. HOW STUPID DO YOU THINK WE ARE???

Equinoxfox has had a few other names on this thread and is a friend of theirs.

BB you are obviously too smart for these two…you figured it out!
I missed your post BBB …Keen insight there!!!
I think there was a picture or two of the boys floating around.
I’ll weigh in on my experience.
I heard the states of Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania and some other southern states were involved. The process of getting the boys to court took about 8 years …so they were able to conduct business until then. I am sure there are others with first hand knowledge.
OH and just for the sake of clarity…this is not hearsay …this information was presented by the FBI witness and the Department of Justice in Federal Court (Virginia) before Senior Judge Williams they day they were cuffed and taken to jail after pleading guilty.
On that day, Keg denied owning any horses that the Feds could seize to repay the victims. About a year later, based on a tip from an “friend of the victims”, a horse was discovered. The FBI investigated and found the horse. The Court seized the horse sold her and I was able to purchase her from the Court! The money went to the victims.
That’s what should happen…people step up to the plate and the vicitms get justice.
Today, Grande Impression is living the life of a Diva! She took Champion showing undersaddle at her first hunter show this year. She stood third at Devon in the huge broodmare class and we have more plans for this lovely mare. She is totally happy and loves her life!!
Here are the pics I have from her Devons…she won the first Sallie Sexton Memorial Trophy as a yearling. She pinned third in the mares this year.

Is there a link to a news story or something with more details? I’ve never heard about this, but obviously others have.
Go to the website for the Eastern District of Virginia, and cite the case number, and you can read the case transcript, or contact the Clerk of the Court Office in the Eastern District of Virginia (all their contact info is on the website) and order a copy of the transcript, then you can get all the facts as they were presented in Court.
Grande Impression took the 2008 Pennsylvania Horse Show Association Mare Championship!!! I have enough awards for a nice new ribbon quilt! Thanks to the PHSA shows for the lovely trophies and gifts.
Her current job is showing with Jill Johnson to Champion in the Hunter Shows…she is a real DIVA!!
Debbie,
After reviewing the previous posts I was reminded…
Have you or the other victims had full restitution from the boys for your losses in the FF case as mandated by the Federal Court in Richmond?
I know my purchase of the mare went toward that fund.
Tell me what’s going on with your Bill in VA?
Anyone else have info about anti-fraud or victims advocacy legislation in their states? Seems the Dual Agency Laws in Kentucky have been working well since passed…Is your state passing legislation next?
TWF,
I was going through some old papers this morning, and I found a show proof of me on Grande Impression when I had borrowed her for the A/A’s a few years ago. I had forgotten what a good looking mare she is! I’ll try to scan it so you can see it.
Oh RNB, you were right, Grand Impression is very good looking. I’m so glad all of y’all declined to bid on her and allowed her owner to get her back. So nice of y’all after all you went thru.
Uh, Tracy isn’t going to any shows where those guys might be, is she:eek:
If so, please notify us as to which parking lot.
I have read through many pages of the post and (believe that I) understand that quite a few of the members here have attended trials and are familiar with the events, details, etc. Sheer curiosity, are these men in any way remorseful or have they expressed any regret for doing what they did to all those people and animals? Any indication that they were sorry enough not to continue their illegal and immoral practices post-incarceration? (I am aware from this post that they are forbidden by the judge from selling/teaching for a period of time). I wasn’t directly affected by their practices, but know a mom/daughter/pony that were.
Oh SSR I would LUFF to see that one!! I love fitting the pieces of her past in place. Yes she is just a beauty & an athlete…her sire Grande Saber (1989-99) always seemed to produce a good looking horse. GS and her pretty momma, First Impression, made a good match. Both were champions on many levels.
The names of the felons -Joshua “Josh” Cardine and Kenneth “Keg” Berlin
They are on suspension from the USEF (read post #524) and supervised through the Federal Court system by order of Senior Federal Judge Richard L. Williams. There are specific rules he set forbidding both all horse activities. Read back to posts near January 6, 2006. Keg is permitted to care for a horse in Southern VA owned by his mother.
Owner…I can’t answer your question…or was it rhetorical??
The felons are forbidden from contact with anyone in the case…
Individuals who do not know the truth should not be attempting to degrade or accuse these men further. They have been punished enough, get over it.
Are these men now Victims of their own crimes? Woe is me, poor dears having been punished enough- what about the Victims of their crimes- those they were found guilty of swindling? What about them? They are still being punished.
Well, I certainly hope there are others out there pushing for legislation of some type. If there are, or if anyone is interested in getting the ball rolling in their particular state…give me a shout…I’ll be glad to help you. TWF…you’re going to jump in to the political arena in Maryland aren’t you? You better!!!

No, just the opposite. Any indication that they were sorry enough not to continue their illegal and immoral practices post-incarceration? I wasn’t directly affected by their practices, but know a mom/daughter/pony that were. Sorry to hear but it may comfort them to know they are not alone.
