Like the title says I have a couple feed questions. My guy will be shipping over to the uk in 4-5 months and I’m thinking about either switching him to a feed now that’s available over there or I’ll just pack a couple bags to lug with us while I search for ones there. He’s on Pro elite grass advantage currently with a few supplements and I’m trying to research what might be some good options but it’s a little overwhelming so wanted to ask other’s experiences. The main thing is low starch/sugar. He’s fairly easy to maintain luckily.
Cavalor and Hygain are 2 brands in both the US and UK, though I can’t say they’re in KY specifically. I know Hygain has at least 1 ration balancer, not positive on Cavalor but you can check.
The good thing is with a ration balancer you can do pretty cold turkey swapping since the amount fed is pretty small, excepting of course taste issues or the really sensitive GI system. So even if you can’t find the same feed here as there, taking 1 bag of the PE will let you make a long transition to what you can find there.
Buckeye in the US and Spillers in the UK should be comparable, I think Spillers even calls one of their balancers Gro n Win now. There looks to be some minor ingredient differences due to what’s available in the UK vs. US.
They don’t appear to have the digestive support of the ProElite.
You could also see if Keyflow is available near you in the US, they’re another UK feed manufacturer. The Golden Oldies appears to be their only balancer with the Protexin probiotics added (the Perfect Balance has prebiotics only), but it would probably be more affordable stateside to add a probiotic to the Gro n Win if you went that route.
Yeah my hope is to have him solid on one feed though so that when we’re over there it’s one thing I know is likely a non issue to consider. I’m very much a plan far ahead so that if im throwing the kitchen sink at him it was the plan to do so already but I figure taking a bag or two will give me plenty of time. He goes through a bag a month for what’s recommended for him
Keyflow is one I was looking at as there is a feed store near me that is listed as a carrier
Got a couple samples and he’s a big fan of the sensi care from Keyflow and looks to like the pink mash so spoiled rotten will be getting a full bag and we’ll see
