Is feed through fly control ( Solitude IGR, Equitrol II,etc.) safe for the gastrointestinal tract and for ulcer prone horses?
Any side effects other than gastrointestinal?
Thanks in advance!

Horses get stomach ulcers that are easy to diagnose and hind gut ulcers or lesions that are more tricky to diagnose. Stomach ulcers are caused by stomach acid, hind gut ulcers by other things including micribiome problems. Two very different issues that don’t have the same causes or treatment. Which one are you concerned about?
It is not my horse in particular. I know the horse was diagnosed with stomach ulcers w/scope at one point.
I would have no idea if this particular horse suffers from hindgut issues, but the horses owner is concerned about feeding feed through fly control and it aggravating ANY gastrointestinal issues…
I am not familiar if there are ANY side effects of feed through fly control so was asking about that for myself.
This was why my question was so broad.
Ok fair enough! I don’t even know the product, was just clarifying about ulcers!
Anyone?
My whole herd is on Solitude IGR without any side effects. My large pony is prone to ulcers but it doesn’t seem to bother her.
I would talk to your vet if there’s a concern and see which supplement, if any, they recommend. Ultimately, they know the horse and their medical issues best. My vet is the one who recommended Solitude to me after a particularly nasty fly season several years ago.
