feeding probiotics, from twice a day to once a day?

My horse gets Equine Choice pre and probiotics. One scoop in the morning and one in the evening. She had colic surgery in August and was put on the Equine Choice after that as recommended by my vet. I’m wanting to move my horse to outdoor board where she would only get grain once a day. Does anyone have any experience with giving the probiotics just once a day? I have emailed my vet about it, still waiting for a reply.

Not familiar with that brand and what the dosing requirement is. Does it have to be given in 2 doses? Mine have always gotten grain only once a day, so thus supplements and probiotics only once a day. I would imagine if you give the required amount, it doesn’t matter too much. My fish oil says take 1 capsule 3x a day- yeah not going to happen, it’s one time or not at all. Otherwise switch to one that is given in one daily dose.

Mine’s on Biotic 8 (Omega Alpha) after a bad colic last year (no surgery). I spoke directly to the Omega Alpha rep specifically about dosing and whether I needed to give the 2 scoops/day as recommended on the jug if it was preventative. She told me it was fine to give 1 scoop once a day.

not regarding the supplement you’re feeding, but mine gets PROBIOS once a day without issue. i used to do it 2x a day but didn’t see a difference between 1x and 2x, so i went to 1x without incident.

I spoke to my vet and she also said once a day is fine! We’re doing 1.5 scoops once a day instead of 1 AM and 1 PM. She thought doubling the dose wouldn’t do any harm but likely it would be a waste.
