Feeling Overwhelmed......Lump on eye-lid: tumors and possible CSU immunotherapy trial

Hi Folks,
A few weeks ago my pony got a chickpea size lump on his eyelid. It didn’t bother him and wasn’t painful. After having the local vets out twice I brought in the equine opthalmologist. She thought it was a parasitic granuloma and wanted 3 weeks of treatment with wormers.

The lump didn’t get smaller. So she came out again and said she’s feeling like its more likely a sarcoid. The problem is that its a tough area to remove and biopsy’s make a sarcoid more reactive. She consulted with an ophthalmologist at CSU regarding their free immunotherapy trials. That ophthalmologist saw the photos and thought it was mast cell tumor.

Oral steroids are not the first choice due to laminitis concerns. So they are coming back to do a fine needle aspiration to confirm if it is a mast cell tumor, and a sample to send to pathology if its not a mast cell.

So, really overwhelmed and have no idea how this will play out. Just wanted to connect with cothers on this.

Definitely take a deep breath  Thinking “will all this worrying actually affect anything?” can get you centered again. If worrying puts you into action to prevent or fix something, then it’s useful to some degree.

But in this case, it isn’t going to impact anything, other than rob you of joys you could be feeling right now.

Yes it’s hard. Yes it takes practice to do every time you start worrying about things. It’s something I learned many years ago from Dale Carnegie, and I still have to put it into practice because worry is my default LOL

Trust that you will have all the info you need to make whatever decision there is, and that you will be able to do what you can, and the outcome will be what it is

My beloved pony had a sarcoid in his ear which was treated w a topical chemotherapy, then had a melanoma (he’s chestnut-very rare) taken off of his pastern, and has several lumps the size of a pea I watch like a hawk. They are all fluid filled cysts. Fingers crossed and jingles for you and your pony.
