Feet on jump barrels?

I have some cow painted plastic jump barrels that I want to keep from rolling without having to have jump rails on the ground on either side. Plus we want to use one or two instead of all three as a skinny jump. Has anyone added feet or a base to each barrel to keep them from rolling if hit by horse while jumping.

These are barrels that used to be filled with car wash soap so the whole lid does not come off. There is a small round hole where the lid comes off. If the whole lid came off we could just run the screws to the feet from the outside. I am concerned that if we run them through wood feet from the outside they would just pull off since we can’t put a nut on them.

I generally just nest them between ground poles.

I’ve seen horses get a rail tangled in their legs and fall, but I can’t say I’ve ever seen a problem caused by a plastic barrel. I’m sure someone has though…

If you’re thinking of screwing 2x4’s or 2x6’s to the barrel to make a flat side, that’s not going to stop it from moving if a horse hits it. You’d have to attach it to something pretty substantial (framed piece of plywood?) to keep it in place.

I have little wedges I can jam under the barrels to stop them from rolling. Not attached though.

Wheel blocks might hold them in place

I was thinking wedges as feet. I wonder if DH epoxied it and then screwed it?

Keep in mind if the “feet” are attached, then you can’t roll the barrels to move them around…you would have to carry them.

What about something like this :

That way you can still roll the barrels around when you need. You could buy a couple and put one on each side of the barrel to keep it from rolling.

I was afraid that 6 wheel chocks would be a fortune but that isn’t bad. That might work.
