FEI Equine Ethics and Wellbeing survey – Deadline this Friday

This survey is important. On a recent Horse and Hound podcast I listened to, something like 20% of the public felt horses should not be used in sport at all. That has a huge impact on our future.

" The FEI have created the Equine Ethics and Wellbeing Commission, in response to the growing public concern of the use of horses in sport.

For its first task, the Equine Ethics and Wellbeing Commission has created a survey to collect the views of equestrian stakeholders regarding the involvement of horses in sport. The deadline to receive responses is THIS FRIDAY 19 August 2022.

This is one of two surveys being undertaken by the Commission. The other will be focused on the non-equestrian general public.

The results of both surveys will be used to inform the work of the independent FEI Commission.

This survey consists of 11 questions addressing topics related to horse welfare or wellbeing, and any specific concerns in relation to the use of horses in sport. The survey results will also help inform more detailed discussion with industry focus groups to gain greater insight into issues identified by participants.

You will require only 10-15 minutes to complete this survey, and your responses will be confidential. The data will only be used to inform the work of the Commission

the survey takes way less than 10 - 15 minutes

I do think the point that this survey is open to all perspectives, not just high level competitors, could be made more clearly. I saw this posted in a few different places but didn’t engage with it because I figured as someone who is not a competitor of any kind, certainly not at the FEI level, that it wasn’t something I could add to. Today I finally clicked on it and realized, oh, I actually do have relevant thoughts.

Not sure who’s ultimately responsible for the marketing and generating responses, but given this is closing tomorrow, it does seem like a missed opportunity.

I thought the same, that only FEI affiliated persons’ feedback was wanted. Glad I had a look and participated. Thanks for sharing.
