FEI Freestyle Qualification ?

Does earning a 60% at PSG qualify a horse for an I1 Freestyle or do you need a 60% at I1? The FEI rules sort of read like PSG can qualify you but it’s a little unclear.

Are you looking to do the I1freestyle at a CDI or USEF show? According to USEF, the 60% must be at I1. (DR129.9) basically, you need the 60% “at the declared freestyle level (I1) or a higher level”.

If at a CDI, no required score, but you must declare to ride it (if it is not mandatory), and must place in the top 15 of PSG/I1 horses.

DR129.9 “in order to enter a freestyle class at any level, a horse/rider combination must have
received a minimum score of 60% in the highest test of the declared freestyle level or any test of a higher level at
a Federation Licensed or FEI recognized Dressage Competition” (USDF rules).

That means you have to get the score at I1 or higher to qualify.

I know this isn’t what you asked, but it brings up a pet peve of mine: While you are trying to get your 60% at I1, it is not possible to ride ANY freestyle at the same show. I.e. you are not qualified to ride I1 freestyle, there isn’t such a thing as PSG freestyle, and you aren’t allowed to ride 4th level freestyle becasue it is 2 levels below. (A similar thing happens when you are riding Grand Prix, but not yet qualified to do a Grand Prix freestyle).

Does anyone know why there isn’t a PSG Freestyle? Just something I’ve wondered.

They don’t have a PSG or I-11 freestyle. I think it has to do with being the FEI levels that are international, and the idea that there is not that much differentiation between 4th and PSG and I-II and GP.

Because FEI competitions (CDIs) run in tours, not tests.

Small tour - PSG, I-1, I-1 freestyle
Medium tour - I-A, I-B, I-2
Large tour - GP, GPS, GP freestyle

So there is no need for the FEI to have a PSG freestyle because those riders already have one, and the national shows are just offering the tests that the FEI has released.
