Those piaffe’s……were….um….interesting.
Lottie comments to H&H;
“He was definitely a little more impressed with this arena than he was with previous World Cup arenas,” said Lottie. “I don’t think he quite took a liking to the high seating and the amazing wall of flowers – he even whinnied to the crowd when he went in. So I really had to give him some confidence today, but he trusted me, and I’m so proud of him.
There seemed to be a few top pairs missing from the line-up - maybe I’m under a rock, but where is everyone?
Glamourdale seemed a bit tired. I will admit I prefer to see a horse drop out and need a bit of kind encouragement to keep going than a horse who “piaffes” like a sewing machine because they are tired / tense but too afraid not to piaffe.
I think he is mid-breeding season and showing in a difficult location - so he did well.

His canter is amazing, love the extended especially. He is one handsome fellow! I don’t mind a horse petering out a bit in the piaffe as opposed to the ones that pop their bottoms while their front legs seem stuck in cement.
My only negative thought is how busy he is with his mouth. Otherwise I think he is the creme de la creme.
I would LOVE to ride that canter!
IMHO his piaffe hasn’t been his strong suit.
Congratulations to Adrienne Lyle and Helix for finishing in the GP top 10.
Yes. I haven’t followed them extensively but that horse strikes me as having had “You Will Obey” instilled in him before Ms. Lyle became his rider. She does a good job trying to get him to relax and lengthen his frame.
He reminds me VERY strongly of my mare’s full brother (by UB40, so sensitivity from those lines in common with Helix who is by Apache, a UB40 son) who desperately wants to please and makes himself a wreck if he can’t figure out how to. I think the original rider was an amateur? Or at least not as well known internationally. I just remember seeing video and thinking this was a horse who needed a super sensitive rider who would really ensure he knew what he was supposed to do and help instill confidence. You can see the improvement in huge leaps and bounds in Adrienne’s schooling clips with him, and I’m sure it will start showing more and more in the competition ring as well. Horses like that are willing to die for their riders they try so hard, and the challenge is getting them to relax and enjoy it instead of stressing themselves out!
Is there video out of Helix and Lyle’s second ride? I read someone who stated they should have been rung out by the judges. WTF happened?
