mynson needs to get his hat reshaped. Is it possible? If so where? We are in Central Va.
Around here some of the big shows have vendors that have hats and will have someone shaping them.
You could ask around where you are about those kinds of shows?
Our local western stores have a hat department and they will shape any hat for you.
Doesn’t take long with their steam machine, but it takes skill to do a good job.
I would ask other horse people in your area; ask where they go. As Bluey said, most western stores have a steam machine available for hat shaping … but not everyone is SKILLED enough to do it nicely!
I’m an English rider. My son was gifted a nice cowboy hat 6 years ago. It could use a little love. I’ll ask around.
Thanks for the input.
We used to shape our own with a tea kettle.
You get the water boiling, steam coming out of the spout into the places in the hat you want to soften and shape.
I would not try that on a fancy, expensive hat first, try on an old piece of felt, then have a good idea of what you want to get once finished.
You can use a clothes steamer too. Practice on something else first though. Getting the hat professionally shaped gets old if you are showing a lot. In OPs case, I’d just take it in as needed, for others wearing one every week, might think about learning to DIY so you can keep it looking fresh.
