Fence posts: Metal or wood?

I have always used wood posts for my fence corner and gates. Given the current prices for 6x6 treated timbers I am considering metal for my new project. I have a few of them already from the previous owner. They are in good shape, don’t seem to have frost heave issues and hold big gates with no sagging. So I am very tempted… These are the heavy duty galvanized posts most often used for corners on chain link. Anyone have thoughts?

6x6’s are indeed expensive. Do you need square posts?

My advice is to find out where telephone poles are made. Here in the southeast that is Ace Pole Company in Waycross GA http://acepole.com/

When we moved in a decade ago, we went and got a load of 10’ long, big posts for corners.

(In hindsight, we should have had them delivered. You will need a big flatbed to haul them yourself. They could have delivered them with a boom truck and set them down for us.)
