Fence walking at feed times

Got one that walks the fence at feeding in AM and PM. She just paces back and forth along a 40-60 foot section infront of the gate. Back and forth and back and forth. Digging a trench and holes at the end where she turns. Tried changing feed times, feeds, putting obstacles in the path like poles and such, she just walks over or around them. If she sees you outside she will stop and wait patiently. Will wait if you ignore her and go out into the field to pick up poop. Will stand fairly quietly, only minor pawing, and wait. Will wait in the trailer and watch out the window. Good health, attitude, weight etc. Fine for the entire rest of the day but as soon as it gets closer, she starts. Not enough to break a sweat, just a steady, back and forth. It’s very frustrating for me. Any more suggestions?

Is this for hay she does this? If so, can you put her hay in a slow feeder so that she’s constantly has access to it versus getting “meals”? She shouldn’t be going very long without forage anyway…

Yup, she’s got full access to hay all day, as well as over an acre of grass field and she’s turned out 24-7.
she only gets about 5 lbs of senior feed and that’s divided into the 2 feedings. Also put into a big tub so it takes her longer. She’s not food aggressive either. And will calmly stand back from it untill I let her eat. Okay with leaving it after she starts eating too.
also tried dividing it up into a bunch of different buckets spread out all over the field. Like a game.
Usually starts within a hour of a normal time, but I’ve tried changing times and not feeding. She will eventually give up but it takes a while, especially at the nighttime feeding.

Sounds crazy, but I think this kind of thing is often the product of too regular a schedule.

Loosen things up a bit, feed enough hay to keep them reasonably content, and build in variable meal times. Works a charm.
