I’ve been seeing more and more people in my area showing their horse with the Fenwick Titanium Mask on their horse .it’s supposed to produce a drug free calming effect. I would imagine it’s something similar to a dog wearing a thunder shirt. Has anyone here used it on their horse and can legitimately say it helped their anxious/nervous/distracted horse? Curious if it’s just another fad that doesn’t do anything. Have an anxious TB that I would consider trying it on, if it actually helps.
Yes. I got myself a Fenwick Face Mask with Ears and it goes on every single ride.
I gave one to my riding teacher to use on her sort of crazy, continually surprised and distracted Arab gelding whose brain is WHAT!!!?
She will not ride her horse without it now. With it on he pays attention to her. If she forgets it all his old habits come back, he is continually distracted and scared, and is not a very relaxing ride.
The horses I ride just relax when I put it on. Sometimes I get sighs and licking.
Most experienced and educated people seem to think it’s a fad. See above link.
It does seem pretty faddish to me, and (for me) awfully expensive for something that I am sure would be frowned upon in the hunters/eq (my discipline).
Not sure why its called “liquid titanium” other than to account for the price!!
I agree with the statement that the liquid titanium is bogus. But i don’t see any issue with people believing in the placebo effect even if that’s all it is.
Better to chase results through a harmless hood then lunging, drugs, or anything else we see to get a calmer horse.
Curious where you’re suddenly seeing this take off. They’ve been around for years and if they actually worked there’d be some legitimate (non anecdotal) evidence by now
I’m in Chicago, have seen quite a few at Lamplight and GLEF
