Fescue toxicity or just maiden?

My maiden mare is currently 356 days in foal, and has 0% udder development… reading online it seems that some maiden mares do not bag up before giving birth. But I am wondering if there is a way to tell the difference between fescue toxicity and just being one of those maidens?
I have never had problems with my other mare (also maiden at that time) and she bagged up normally. Same pastures, same management, etc.

My vet was here yesterday to breed my other mare and didn’t seem overly worried about it. But I am getting nervous with her carrying so long…

She does look pregnant, has started laying down more frequently, poops and pees more frequently, and these last 2 days has started to poop all over her stall. (She normally poops in the same spot on a big pile). She has been holding her tail up more lately… swishing it a lot even at night when there are no flies.

Where are you? Is there fescue in the pasture?

I downloaded an app to identify the different grasses, so far only barley, rye, timothy, orchard, bermuda and sweet vernal. Hope that means the risk is very low or non existent

I was freaking out over my maiden mare not developing an udder. She did, but not until just a couple of days before she foaled at 375 days!

We haved lived with fescue for the past 15 years…and YES…it does cause problems.

I cannot find any fescue, so I am guessing that isn’t the problem! Vet says just be patient…

I got the same thing. It is SO hard and I was trying not to be THAT owner, constantly bugging them. I read this article every day, sometimes more than once a day, towards the end of my mare’s pregnancy. http://www.equine-reproduction.com/articles/overdue.shtml It’s great reassurance. We got an actual bag just a few days prior to foaling. Her pH went down and CA went up just like text book. If we had waited for her to tell us, we would have only spent two nights in the barn!
