Fields boots or Dress boots?

I’m looking for a new pair of tall boots since I’m starting to outgrow my current pair. I’m also involved in the hunter scene so I’m trying to figure out whether a field boot would be better than a dress boot for both jumpers, cross country, and hunters. I’d be showing more hunters or jumpers (stadium) for a while, but eventually I’m going to start moving away from hunters and focusing on eventing.

It looks like your post cut off, but luckily in eventing, there’s more personal preference at play with boot styles than other disciplines. If you plan on crossing over to the hunter ring much, I’d stick with a black field boot as they are most common there. If you cross over more to dressage, a dress boot will fill both bills. Jumpers are more blasé as well.

Physically, even with zippers, a field boot will give you a bit more room through the ankle, which is helpful with high arches or old injuries. A dress boot is easier to clean, not having to work around the laces and folds of a field boot.

I would say is really comes down to personal preference, and consideration of potential other disciplines you may want to participate in.

Oops, didn’t realize this posted. Already made a different one but I suppose this one is a bit different. Fixed the main message

Sounds like field boots would be your best “fit” Pardon the pun

My primary discipline is Eventing, and I definitely prefer dress boots.

But the last time I got new boots, the only ones that would fit (fat ankles, not fat calves) were field boots, so that is what I got. And nobody has commented on them or “looked funny” because of them.

I have also ridden in dress boots at recognized hunter and jumper shows, and nobody commented on those either

Go with whichever fits you better.
