figure 8 noseband fit?

![]( recently bought a bobby’s figure 8 bridle to try on my TB mare. i’ve never used a figure 8 bridle, does the fit look correct? right now the cheek strap is on the farthest hole up and i had to punch extra holes in the noseband strap. she normally wears horse sized bridles/fly masks. if the fit is not good, what brands should i look for?

The rings are WAY up by your horse’s eye. The rings need to be moved back behind the cheekbone (more toward your horse’s chin/throatlatch) and lowered a bit. Some people would only lower the rings a little (just above the end of the cheekbone), while some would lower them to just below the end of the cheekbone.

Yep. Too high!

I was always told with those kinds of figure 8’s that the right goes on top of the bottom of the cheek bone or a little higher (up to the fingers), depending on the jaw. You want that strap so that it fastens at the rounded part of the jaw, if that makes sense.

I don’t think the rings are too high at all, just too far forward by the eye. Some of us have horses with tiny faces, so the rings will be higher to get the bridle to fit.

I agree with the first two posters. You might find that the noseband fits better once the rings are in the right place

The type with rings is much more difficult to ‘fit’ properly than the true figure 8 that slips through the headstall of the noseband.

Look at photos of Simon (Beezie Madden)–he wears one. http://www.noellefloyd.com/simon/
