Well, after a 4 year hiatus, I finally have a new hunt horse ( new-used) and live in real hunt country. I live 40 miles from Southern Pines and I’m itching to get started. I was “gifted” a saint of an 18 year old TB hunt horse. A been there done that guy. I need new clothing. Any consignment stores in the area? Any organized rides or hunter paces coming up in the next month? I literally haven’t ridden in 2-3 years and have a lot of conditioning to do for both me and the old gelding.
I also have a large, green driving pony that I’m starting to break. I’m mainly working her to get ready for combined driving but will also break her to ride/hunt. Will hopefully have two riders soon and hubby will be able to ride the older guy.
No advice on So. Pines except does M&M do consignment clothes? I believe they sell used tack – anyways, big CONGRATS!
I don’t know. What and where is M&M?
I live in Laurinburg so I’m not real familiar with Southern .Pines stores.
Congratulations !!! Hope you have fun this season!!
M & M, I believe, is M & M Tack in the RDU area. Good with saddle fitting as far as I know. Not sure about hunt appointments?
Barn Door Consignments, in Southern Pines I believe, would probably be a place to start.

Good luck!
Congratulations! I hope you have a great time.
Middleburg Tack is not in your area, but they usually have a good selection, and are really helpful. If you provide your measurements, they’ll let you know what might fit and ship it.
Thanks for all the contacts everyone. I have a silly question. For cubbing and informal days, I’d love to wear my comfy Dublin boots. They are all brown suede. I’m assuming these would not be appropriate? I have field boots but they are not comfortable as they are a little tight in the legs and feet.
Also, with this hunt, is it appropriate to carry my whip or should I remove the thong and just use the handle as a crop?
What’s the best option for a good raincoat for hunting? I’ve not ever been somewhere with much rain during hunt season.
Not silly questions at all, but best answered by your hunt’s Masters or secretary as different hunts have different traditions. And really, no one minds answering! Re: raincoat. We don’t normally wear them, but if it’s a really cold rain (November usually) Barbour coats (or similar) are sometimes worn.
When it’s rainy my hunt allows rain coats of subdue colors- dark navy, black or brown. The Outback fabric coat or an oilskin coat are the most common ones used.
Congrats on finding a new horse and good luck this season!!!
I’ll be sure to ask the Master.
Happy days! My old broodmare/beginner horse is being shipped back from TX. ( she was there on a breeding lease for ET)Found out last week that we will have our granddaughter living here, mainly because she’s horse crazy. This mare is so nice for total newbies! Crossing fingers she’s still sound as it’s been 2 years.
