Finally got that adult dog but is he to much for me to handle?

I agree that you haven’t looked very hard if you can’t find a good Chessie breeder. They aren’t cheap, but you get what you pay for…

This sounds like a straight up horrible match. He’s a high prey dog that’s highly trained but will slam through an underground because of the pay off of listening to his drive. You don’t have a fenced in yard. You don’t have the ability to take him for runs, we’ve established biking has significant risks, and there aren’t good high energy sport options for you as a pair. He’s good with dogs in a day to day setting but randomly has his drive kick in and can be reactive. He can physically out power you.

This is the type that will be narrowly managed until he jumps a dog or the front door isn’t totally closed and the doorbell rings. I bet he’s an awesome sweet dog 95% of the time. Unless you feel fully confident that you can handle him at that 5% (which has proven to not be the case) he is a risk to you and others. All it takes is for him to take you off your feet on an icy morning to get a TBI or to get the pants sued off you because he goes through an e collar after the neighbors kid on a bike.

Yes a bunch of us have been wondering. Did it work out? Did you hire the trainer? Did he go back to the rescue?
How many more falls have you had?

Hoping for a good news update on this one.

Looks like the op hasn’t logged in for a while, maybe there is no good news.

:frowning:

Hopefully she found some help and it all worked out & she’s enjoying her new dog !

Agree about the black lab. I have one who weighs 86lbs (muscle, not fat) and he looks pretty fierce! He has a big bark, and a very, very low prey drive. :grinning: Occasionally he will run towards a deer or rabbit, but you can hear his brain saying “ too much work, never mind. “
This dog is dog aggressive due to being attacked as a puppy, but after going through obedience training I can manage him on a flat collar.
