Finding a bronc riding school

Anyone know of where I can find a bronc riding school? I’ve done a basic google search but nothing shows up here in California other than clinics.

I’ve got one that will bronc, come on down.

But seriously - you may have to travel for what you’re looking for.

If you’re deadset on a school, I’d look at Sankey. Probably have to travel but better than spending money on a mediocre school with crap stock and equipment.

Isn’t that my only option though? I’m not sure if I can find some random person with a bucking bronc who is willing to let me ride them haha.

I’m not sure what your end goal is?
I’m guessing you’re not in HS or JR rodeo and an adult looking to learn?

To learn bronc riding properly. I’m an adult looking to learn so I’m trying to find the best and safest way to do so and my initial thought was a school

Ask your closest high school rodeo team who teaches them?
Here a local rancher lets 4H/high school kids practice on some of his youngsters before they are started under saddle.
Maybe there is someone in your area that can help you?

Sankey is undoubtedly the most widely recognized. Even I’ve heard of them! They travel to different parts of the country each year, holding their schools (or multi-day clinics). In my state, Arizona, there is Stoney Ranch which has a bronc riding school on site. In fact, if you do a simple Google search for “bronc riding rodeo schools” quite a few will come up, from Colorado to Kansas and Texas.

Sessions seem to run about $450 to $500. On top of that you’d have your travel expenses.

If you’re seriously interested in learning how to ride broncs from experts, gaining a solid foundation and being as safe as possible, I believe a professionally run school is the way to go. I’d stay far away from any fly by night place that upon inquiring says, “Sure, come on out and you can sit on some things that’ll buck ya’.”

Just to add, since I re-read your original post, multi-day clinics are kind of the way these places are set up. Veater Ranch is the only place I’m familiar with in California, but even they just offer clinics over a few days.

My only other suggestion is to contact the California High School Rodeo Association. They might be able to refer you to someone.

Good luck, have fun, and be safe!

What part of CA are you from?

Flying U does one every year in the Spring.

You could probably message their page and get info/ideas of where to go.
I know when I worked for them they had days where they’d have people over to get on practice horses on the off season. Reno, Cindy, and the whole family are great people that love to give anyone a chance.

Another place you might reach out to for resources is the All American Rough Stock Academy. They are in PA, but they could probably help you get in touch with resources in your area.

And lastly, Lori at BRN is a great resource and wealth of information for stuff like this. I’d highly recommend reaching out to her.

One option might be to research colleges that have a rodeo team and reach out to whoever coaches the bronc riding. In my experience most rodeo folks are more than happy to recruit new people, and they might have some information about more local resources.
