I’m hoping COTH can help. I’m starting to look for my next horse, and I’m interested in trying to find a young prospect directly from a breeder. Probably a rising 3 year old or 4 year old, unstarted or lightly started. I know there are a couple of FB groups for young warmbloods, but not all of them are super active. Are there any good resources you know of to find breeders with young stock available to sell before the spring? Thanks in advance!
What discipline are you looking for?
I’m not sure what discipline you ride, but I bought a weanling from October Hill Farm in Hudson Oaks Texas to be a hunter, they mostly raise jumpers. I also follow Rising Star Farm in Georgia (hunters and jumpers). Hillside H Ranch in Missouri (focus on jumpers). There are some bigger operations, too. Wild Turkey Farm in Oregon. Iron Spring Farm in PA. W Charlot raises nice hunters in Canada. Hilltop in MD. There are really a lot of great breeders in the US!
Depending on how deep into Canada you are willing to look, there are many good quality breeding farms here. I know of one or two local to me even and I am quiet litteraly in the middle of nowhere.
I would suggest looking at WKM stables in manitoba if you are interested in jumpers.
@Daventry Sorry, probably should have mentioned that. I’m primarily interested in a young jumper prospect, but would also consider a hunter.
Thanks for the suggestions so far! I will definitely check those out. I have no problems travelling for the right horse, so going deeper into Canada isn’t a problem.
If you want a top notch jumping prospect try Suzanne at
Bloomington Farm in Ontario, Canada. She has very high quality jumping stock registered KWPN-NA.
Address: 17721 Bloomington Rd, Maxville, ON K0C 1T0
Phone: (613) 527-3158
You’ll find a directory of US based breeders on our website:

A second vote for WKM in Manitoba. Also try W. Charlot Farm in southern Ontario.
In Ontario there are several nice breeders. We just bought another weanling in the fall.
W Charlot if you have the budget. Their weanlings start around $15,000 CND. A nice 3 or 4yo would go for much more.
Braecrest Farms has some nice young horses, they frequently do the breeding classes at the Royal.
Macgregor Equestrian is a smaller operation, but again they have nice horses.
Northern Legacy has everything from safe ammy friendly babies all the way to fancy pro prospects.
Elizabeth Houtsma at Hillside H Ranch in Missouri is breeding FEI prospects and we got an amazing jumper from her. She would be my #1 choice. Also, Brookson Farm in Ottawa, Canada has some young prospects, or Crossroads Farm in Arizona. They’d be more hunter types.
Silver Creek International produces some lovely jumpers!
For Canadian jumpers, I like Okanogan show jumpers in BC: http://www.okshowjumping.biz/ I also like Ferme Beaulieu in Quebec: https://www.facebook.com/FermeBeaulieuFarm/ Bosch Farms in Alberta: http://boschfarms.com/index.htm In the US, I like Raven Ridge in Minnesota: http://www.ravenridgefarm.com/# Halycon Hill in Kentucky: http://www.halcyon-hill.com/ I know there are a few more - but these are all worth checking out for jumpers!
Thank you Equibrit for that Warmblood Breed Association link. That is very helpful!!! Also to our American friends please do check what the Canadian warmblood and sport horse breeders can offer you. Top bred horses with a favourable US/Canadian dollar exchange as a bonus :encouragement:
