Finding the right saddle - Sommer, Trilogy

The quest for a saddle that fits continues…!

I thought I would treat myself to a lovely Schleese Link dressage saddle in the fall of 2018. Unfortunately, I have come to the very sad conclusion that it really does not fit me. It literally feels like my hip bones and pelvis are falling off the sides.

I tried my friends Sommer Diplomat and just like that my lower back didn’t hurt any more… my hips felt freer. It was amazing. I inquired as to why it made me feel so balanced and pain free and she told me that Sommer saddles are made for people with a wider seat bone. So I am now in the process of attempting to find a used one and someone who will ship to Canada.

I guess my question is, does anyone else know of different dressage saddles that come with a wider seat and a straighter/forward flap for my short femurs! I love the look of the Trilogy Amadeo but again, I cannot try one because there are no dealers in Canada.

Suggestions very welcomed.

The Trilogy Amadeo does have a wider seat while still maintaining a narrower twist. It was a very comfortable saddle.

I bought a (used) Trilogy Verago just off photos because the reviews on here were so good. I wasn’t disappointed!! I figured if it really didn’t fit either me or the horse I would just advertise and sell it on because, as you pointed out, there are no dealers in Canada, but there was no need. It’s sooooo comfortable and fits the mare really well that we’ve made quite a jump in our training since I wasn’t fighting the old saddle for position [even though I didn’t realize at the time I was].
There are quite a few Trilogies (new and used) for sale on various sites and some have a return/trial policy. Perhaps that is the way for you to go rather than worry about a dealer…

Pelham has a bunch of Trilogies right now, will they ship to Canada for a trial?

I will be trying my friends Trilogy Amadeo next weekend and I actually found one in Ontario that would be my seat and tree size. So I am really hoping I fit in it - could be made for me! Fingers crossed! It is nice knowing other people have sat in them and can confirm the wider seat!

Fingers crossed for you!
Just to note, Trilogy makes 3 styles, so if the Amadeo doesn’t work perfectly for you, don’t give up on the brand as a whole. The Verago and Debbie McDonald styles both have slightly different twists and seats, so either of those may be what you are looking for.
