Finishline U-7 OR Omega Alpha Gastra-fx OR ULSUS

Which have you tried? what are your feelings?

Looking for something for a gelding who will be showing for the first time this year as a preventative. Basically the same components however the Gastra “claims” to heal uclers. I find that hard to believe but it leads me to believe it might be more potent than the U-7.

The Ulsus is about the only other thing we can get across the border for this sort of thing.

I’m a big advocate of Alpha Omega products, I’ve had nothing but good experiences with them. If you decide to go the Gastra-FX route, I’d pair it with Biotic 8 as well. It’s what my vet recommends, and it’s worked like a charm for the horses I’ve put on it/seen on it. Great stuff!

Good luck!

thank you  very much!!

None of the above. Horses are CONTINOUS acid secreters. So giving something only buffers the acid for a short time after you give it doesn’t accomplish anything. This is why omeprazole works

Another thing that helps though is to have hay in front of the horse all the time. Since acid is secreted constantly, if there is food in the stomach the acid works on it, not the stomach lining. Horses evolved to be continous eaters. They have small stomachs for this reason. So mother nature has them secrete acid all the time since she assumes there will be food in the stomach most all the time.

Rehashing this thread…

My boy was showing some signs of ulcers. I wasn’t surprised as lately his life was turned upside down and he had a TON of stall rest, solo turnout, etc.
So I grabbed a jug of the Gastro FX and started to give 60ml 3 times/day (as per the bottle) on tuesday morning.
The instruction doesn’t specify when to drop the dose down to the daily “sustaining” dosage listed on the bottle…can someone enlighten me?!?

I have already seen an improvement with his sensitivity, which I find odd since its only been 3 days of him being on it. I was planning on the high dose for a week, then the minimal dose (30ml twice daily or 60ml once) for another 3 weeks. He is back out in a small herd with 24/7 turnout and unlimited hay and grass so I assume the ulcers won’t reoccur

Does it really work that fast or was it something else (like the 3hr trail ride last week) that could have been irritating him??

Gastra FX is not for ulcers…I used it for over a year with no difference. Try Equine Choice pro biotic instead, with a true ulcer dedicated medication, like U gard or Gastroguard.

I would definitely not attribute it to the Gastra FX.

I knew it!! lol
I went to greenhawks looking for Ulcerguard or something along those lines and the lady pointed me to this and said “This is what everyone has been buying around here if they are suspecting ulcers”, but I got the impression from the directions on the jug it was more to “maintain” an already happy tummy when starting potential situations that may cause ulcers…not fixing them.

Damn…shoulda went with my gut feeling pun totally intended lol

Thanks Jealoushe!!
